Derek's convinced Johnson will be carried out at the end of the conference by the men in grey jackets and ousted as PM, your opinion seems to differ and he will probably limp on until the GE barring another no-confidence vote in another 12 months, so which is it?
Gone at the end of October? (after the conference in Blackpool. How will this come about?)
Gone after a second VONC? (in twelve months, under current 1922 rules)
Gone after the next GE? ( current Parliament automatically dissolves on 17th Dec 2024, unless HM dissolves it earlier due to a GE being called)
They simply have different opinions about the tipping points and the timing.Gone at the end of October? (after the conference in Blackpool. How will this come about?)

I thought you wanted Johnson gone too?
It seems odd to be gloating that he's clinging on if that's the case.
It seems I'm doing nothing more than making Derek's life complicated by challenging him to tell me why I'm ignorant to the machinations of the Tory party and just asking him to support his theory that dark forces will oust Johnson without a VONC or Johnson resigning.
Does that help you out?

I would point out the 1922 mob leaders are up for reelection in the next couple of months. That might be fun. I think it possible that there will be pressure to remove the limitation on how frequently a VNC could be instigated. It's within the 1922's remit to do so. I have no idea whether there is any attempt to oust the incumbents. Anyone heard rumours?
Another, more exciting, and newsworthy way for an aspirant to oust Johnson would be for them to resign from the cabinet, taking their co-runner/promised great office of state of choice with them. 'I feel I can no longer support/feel I must speak out/have got backing from one of the party doners/Murdoch is supporting me,' as justification. The other challengers in the party have a decision to make. If they stay on the sinking ship, backing Johnson despite, well, despite everything, this will ensure they will be starting behind the couple, maybe more as promises are easy and cheap, who came out, so to speak, earlier. If two, three or more cabinet ministers resign, those that remain might well distance themselves from him (Dories and Patel are exceptions to this of course). That sort of pressure is irresistible.
I think they might wait for a trigger though. Some great/greater problem with Johnson's leadership, the reaction of the party, or, maybe, a Cummings special. He must have more secrets to divulge. There is the possibility of the simple conclusion that he had lied to parliament.
I want resignations. These are always memorable and, because they are not easily forgiven, often come with great emotion and facts, and the carnage will be similar to a shoot-'em-up computer game, but with more blood.
I think the labour and libdem tactics post wins is wrong. Both teams are blaming Johnson. They should be blaming the tory party. Once Johnson goes . . .

I think all bets are off as to quite what will do for him and when and I'm less sure there will be some single event more death by a thousand cuts.I would point out the 1922 mob leaders are up for reelection in the next couple of months. Reading the papers this morning and there's meant to be plots afoot to bias the 1922 for Johnson or against Johnson and all sorts.
Who knows?
It still seems noticeable that the MPs and ministers sent out to defend or explain Thursdays by-election defeats seem keen to mention lots of things except one thing which is "Boris Johnson".
The clip of the Channel 4 interview sums up perfectly the denial and/or unwillingness to confront reality that he is the problem.
Must admit I flip flop between wanting him gone and thinking it's more amusing seeing him limp on only problem is every day he does the country suffers as a result.

Well at least the proposal wasn’t to be funded by the tax payer. Indicates Boris has every intention of staying in Number 10, and I suspect that the treehouse is handy propaganda to aid that process.
What if the donation had resulted in Brownlow being passed a few favours in return that cost the tax payer much more?bhstewie said:

According to the link, there's going to be a battle for this election. More enjoyment for us.

Not sure of the relevance of that?
Why did you cut the second day part off? It's quite simple. You were going on about how furlough kept people in jobs etc and now had to be paid back, fair enough. I gave you an example - and there are many - where people were laid off, despite furlough money, and now those at the top get bumper payrises off the back of it.
Now these same industries are having major crises over lack of staff, and the government's solution is to say don't pay people more... unless you are at the top, it seems.

You know, it sort of puts things into perspective when we go on about how crap Boris is, and then you look at what's happening in the US. We are rubbish but my god I'm still glad I don't live over there sometimes.
Of course it does and I'm glad I don't too but it also isn't much of a bar.A lot of what's happening in the US now seems to be Trumps legacy and to borrow a phrase "they call him Britain Trump".

Yeah nothing says dictatorship like a £150,000 playhouse during a cost-of-living/housing/inflation crisis Evanivitch said:

Possibly something to do with envy (not the item itself) or bash the rich (though it's hardly premiership footballer) or just the usual Grrrr Boris stuff from the tolerant illiberal vaguely left if it helps.
