Don’t care about averages. Unless living somewhere that meets the averages for income/housing/etc then it’s an irrelevance.

I like a pint or twelve and drink in pubs all over the country and can’t remember the last time I saw a pint for less than a fiver aside from happy hour in a local bar in leeds.

No idea how that average comes about but then a wonder what percentage of pints are sold across the U.K. in Spoons to bring those averages down.

I haven’t been to many places outside of town where a random pint of cask beer is over a fiver.

In fairness, he's probably quite happy as he gets paid "through the nose" living there too no doubt.

Horses for courses innit.

Many places in the Midlands and the North are comfortably less than a fiver. Pint of ale in my local in Warwickshire is £3.90 I think, and £3.70 before 7pm. Guinness is over a fiver, maybe 1 or 2 lagers are too, but across the bar the average will be less than £5, and by volume certainly lower.

That's just an independent local pub, not Spoons or any cheap brewery.

Spoons at Brighton Marina you can get pints for £1.50! Incredible value.

Amazing isn't it? Imagine going to a pub in London and getting 3 pints for a fiver, and still have change!

They're not even that far, perfectly commutable especially with working from home a few days a week.

My local is £4.20 a pint for real beer, gone up from £3.20 when covid hit. That's typical for most places round here, up to £5 a pint at more fancy places. Lager and cider usually a bit more. We did go into a spoons the other week where it was £2.30 a pint. I appreciate their business model, but not sure how they haven't had to put up their prices more, since their margins must be tighter.

And if you think beer is expensive, do not take your kids out for a meal and buy them coke or lemonade by the pint - many places it's more than beer!

When I was in the 6th form, a mate described a can of bitter as liquidised cat crap. It's a brilliant term which I have never forgotten, and very apt for Guinness.

But only when you compared to prices above £6.00. When comparing it to prices below £6.00, then it's not. Which is what you have done.
