Yay least you have prescribed measures for drinks, we in Toronto have places that serve ‘beers’ which can be anywhere from 12 to 20 oz ( a full UK pint is 20) some charge the same for the smaller drinks as the larger ones, it’s v hard to know if the drink you have is good value.

My local does a decent ESB style ale , served English style by proper pints, yet the brewery that made it across the road only serve in 16 oz measures….we do have weights and measures acts, but it only applies if you call the drink a pint.

No but it proves a point that production costs are not the only factor which you alluded to.

the cost difference to the customer isn't all production related to production by any chalk.

We’re finalising the 2023 accounts for a pub I’m involved with. Energy costs pretty much quadrupled in 2023 relative to 2022. Pubs are expensive places to keep open and buying the beer is only part of that.

On the subject of beer prices, just back from Bilbao and what a refreshing change that was, glass of wine or a small beer, €2.50 a glass everywhere, even the Airport : yes:
The promenade in Kato Paphos (Cyprus), all the cafes were around 2.80 to 3.10 euros for a pint of Keo (local lager).
Two cans of IPA last night at Chicago O'hare, £22.50.

American IPA hits different. Probably 8% in a big can.

Sorry for going off topic - but I found myself in 'Spoons the other night as you do, and tried their seasonal Christmas Turkey dinner. Well, I must say...it was alright. I enjoyed it.

My lad turned 18 last week and had his first legal night out in Nottingham with his mates.
One of the bars (an Aussie themed sports bar) was selling two pints of Morretti for £5.80.

Blimey, I just paid nine quid for a pint and a half in rural Essex!

Tbh, I’d rather pay that than endure cheap prices in an Aussie themed sports bar…

This made me think last night:

I was at a concert in Liverpool and it was £6 for a pint of non-descript lager at the venue.

But I was very impressed with the support art, so I bought one of her CDs, which was £5.

So £5 for a CD or £6 for a pint of liquid that I would be pissing out shortly after drinking it.

To be fair five pounds for a CD is pretty reasonable!

sorry did we just start to rationalise £22.50 for two cans of beer?

I bought two small cans of Dorada Especial Tostada for 80p a can yesterday from lidl and was wondering whether I overpaid.

it's a wonderful lager.

bar prices here are fairly steady in the 2-3 euro range for a 'grande' especial lager in a frosted glass but have been hearing horror stories of 8 quid a pint back home for IPA.

Shock as beer from Lidl is cheaper than craft beer. Who knew.

Pricey. In San Diego airport last month full size IPA cans were $11

Paid quite a sore £6.50 for an average pint at the Inverarnan bar on the A82 north of Loch Lomond. More than double what I pay in Glasgow. At least service was quick. Last time I was there I walked out after being ignored for 10 minutes in a near empty bar. I don't even mind if staff are busy but they nod in your direction and say they will get to you when they can. Just being ignored though?

£10 for a pint of cheap lager and a cider, in a fking Marsden's pub.

First pub drink we've had in months and likely the last until Christmas.

Went across the road and picked up 3 x 638ml bottles of decent beer for a fiver.

Pubs are fked, surely?

The above has been the situation for as long as I’ve been legal age, nearly 20 years.
