Chorlton in Manchester. Its a dirty heavy traffic suburb of Manchester full of redbrick terraces. Yet the bars charge 3-4 for a half.

I remember post lockdown a bar went from 3.30 for a 330ml can to 4.70 the next week. I asked why the increase?

'Brexit'.

The brewery is 25miles away and their prices for that can haven't changed.

I've been to bars 3 times since the start of December. It's lost its appeal and everytime I pass one locally they are dead.

A pint of London Pride in Weston Green - halfway between Hampton Court and Esher was £4.25.

Regrettably that is the going rate, it seems. Oh for a Wetherspoons in Esher!

If the price of beer is upsetting you best not look at house prices.
This. I've finally found myself min a position financially to buy a house and everything that's within mortgage territory for me is absolute ste!

The price of a pint however actually hasn't changed for me.

Boggo lager and hand pulls such as Carling, Amstel, Blonde and Landlord are all still about £3 - £3.50
Premium lagers and crafts such as Kronie, Peroni and Lagunitas are still around £4.50 - £5.50

Local boozer on the outskirts of Huddersfield however so not really comparable to central London...

Have you no standards?
Everybody loves a 'Spoons. They're such entertaining establishments to visit! The bigger the bouncers you have to squeeze past on entrance the better IMO.
Went to the cinema yesterday in Epsom, decided we would go to "Spoons" for a quick and cheap bite to eat prior, we have been before so know what to expect.

Anyway time wasn't on our side and there was alot of food unavailable so we decided to eat at McDonald's but we had time for a quick drink.

When my pint of Stowford was rung up on the till I actually questioned that it was for a pint "that's for a pint Yeahh?", she responded "yep", it was £2.29, along with the wife's small Rose' the bill was £3.89!

I was somewhere recently - can't quite remember where but somewhere local to me in West Yorkshire - and noticed that a pint was £4 and thought that was too much. Other than getting a good wine to match with a nice meal I don't really bother drinking anyway so maybe I've just lost touch.
£5.40 for a pint of Madri in my local U.K. central Leeds. Few pubs/bars aside from Spoons that are much below £5 a pint now.

After years of spending 4-6 nights a week in bars I’ve now hit my ceiling. Same with eating out which has got to daft prices. Will be now more special occasions and not random nights. Thankfully these days I spend half my time abroad where it’s far cheaper to eat and drink out, so will enjoy that and hibernate at home when in the U.K.

The one in Huddersfield next to McDonalds is full of special people, proving that care in the community is not preferable to secure institutions.

3x500ml bottles of Moretti in Tesco last week £5

Guess what I bought that or a pint in the Hilton Leicester where I was staying for work.

I don't even the drink prices there were too much. Food pretty expensive for what it was though. £16.50 for fish and chips.

Presumably much worse because they've been in McDonalds already.....

There's not many pubs left in Huddersfield Town centre anymore.

So they gather somewhere...

Not just pubs. 25-30% increase in takeaway curry on the last few months. 1 main, 1 side, rice, naan, bhajis, poppadoms, £45. Bought Sainsbury's finest instead.
£45 for a takeaway? Is that an actual takeaway or a nice restaurant that doesn't discount for takeaway?
i can see that as possibe
Main £10
Side £5
Rice £5
Naan £5
Bhajis £5
Poppadoms £5
+ delivery

£45 I can see that.

I had a latte in Knightsbridge yesterday and the bill was £18 for a small latte.
I did a runner.
Pretty much. That was just 1 main and a side among 2 as well.
Mains have gone from £7-8 to £11-12
Bhajis were £4.50, now £7
Sides £6-7, now at £9-10
Naans £2-3, now £4ish
Rice the same
Charging for chutneys, used to be free. Poppadoms 60p each from 30p
Takeaway! = £40-45

I cycle home from work past all the curry places in W London, by the time I get home I'm often gagging for a curry especially if we haven't got anything else lined up. I looked at the one over the road we usually use back in Novemberish, saw those prices, and thought you're having a laugh. They were always towards the bottom of the range, but had a sexy front of house lass and a few new signs. Going up market, I thought. Nope. The more expensive up market one across town has also increased by 25%. Chinese the same. The local chippy is still good value....
Haven't been in a pub since Plan B but I'm not expecting change from a tenner for the usual pint of ale and soft for the mrs. If we go for a long walk it'll be a picnic from the supermarket or high street deli.

The hospitality industry do seem to have increased their prices massively in the last 2 years contributing to higher inflation figures. Some places seem determined to recoup their covid losses in record time.

I wonder how this will play out in the next year as incomes are squeezed
The trouble is, if enough people will pay the new prices to make ends meet, that becomes the price. If they won't pay it, then prices will have to come down, but then how does the business cover its costs?

All this talk over the last 18 months about inflation being transitory is nonsense, in my opinion. I suspect they've known all along and were trying to maintain confidence to keep economic activity going, but the game's up now. We're either in for a period of strong wage inflation, or a lot of bankruptcies. I can't see how house prices can carry on at this rate, but then, somehow the government always finds a new battery for the housing market cattle prod.

Some ridiculous curry prices there. I wouldn't pay that, much prefer to cook the same at home.

Everything is going through the roof.

My pal has a new Caterham on order and he’s been informed the base price is up £3k and the same for options.

This is what happens when you have ZIRP, free furlough money, brutal QE and a worthless FIAT pyramid ponzi debt based currency system.

We’re getting into a strange place. I think the the great unwashed are going to apply a bit of their own “Laffer Curve” and simply not piss money (literally!) away on £7.50 pints in a pub.

Where we are now is invariably the fallout from the Convid project.

Maybe the government wants to inflate away the national debt?!!!
