I admire both of your optimisms. However if you look at the current polls Biden is only slightly ahead of Trump. In both 2016 and 2020 the polls under-estimated the GOP vote. Re: his financial health - I'll believe it when I see it.
Polls get it wrong repeatedly.I get it that it's often perceived that way. He won by 50k votes in three States in 2016. Lost the popular vote by 3m.
Lost the popular vote by 7m in 2020.
Lost the House in 2018/20 and Senate in 20/22. The more he got involved the more R's lost, they simply don't understand he is toxic and the world has moved on.
Lost every endorsement in 2022. Polls predicted a red wave.
January 6 massively alienated many moderates who held their nose and voted for him.
No one seems to understand that 8 years of this guy have also energised women and young voters in the millions. There are millions of kids who were 10 in 2016 who will vote in 2024.
If he is the nominee despite indictments it will be an absolute gift to Dems. No way he wins a national election again, its almost statistically impossible now with demographics and voter age.

I've always found the US' pathological worship of (ex) presidents very odd.
It's as if they view the pres as a direct replacement for an 18th century monarch appointed by God, while the rest of the wold has moved on in the last 250 years.
Had Nixon not been pardoned by Ford this myth would probably not exist as it does. It's as if they view the pres as a direct replacement for an 18th century monarch appointed by God, while the rest of the wold has moved on in the last 250 years.

We don't know the charges yet.
The Stormy Daniels stuff is just the tip of the iceberg, purely going from what we've all already witnessed. Al Capone was got with tax charges. I don't really care what gets trump. If his supporters are ignorant enough to think he's not a crook there's clearly no reasoning with them with any kind of logic/evidence anyway, so they might as well be left to vent on their platforms like 'truth social' where they can do so with no fear of contradiction.
This is why I think that this is partially a test to see how future prosecution will play out. Using these relatively minor charges to see Trumps response, the levels of violence his supporters will use, the kind of defence Trump puts up. This will determine how aggressive prosecutors are with more serious charges. The Stormy Daniels stuff is just the tip of the iceberg, purely going from what we've all already witnessed. Also I'm pretty certain that most of his supporters know he's a criminal, but he's their criminal. They've been indoctrinated to the point where they think that the conspiracy theories against the democrats are real, ergo proof that they've committed worse crimes.

When he stands before a judge, are bail conditions likely? And what would happen if he couldn't post bail?
It would be remarkably sweet if he were unable to control his ego and temper and launched a tirade at the judge.Judge: I find you in contempt.<bang> 30 days.<bang> Would you like to try for 60?

The religious, traditional, family orientated Republican base seem to overlook the underlying subject matter - that Trump had an affair whilst his new wife was pregnant with an 'adult firm star', who he then paid to keep quiet.
That's because the religious, traditional, family orientated Republican base are horrendously bigoted and hypocritical. They have no issue with him being a criminal so long as he's their criminal.

The religious, traditional, family orientated Republican base only care about banning abortion, building a wall, and keeping their guns. Promise them that and they'll overlook pretty much anything else.MrBogSmith said:

That's true. But I don't think that is why he is being indicted. It is perfectly fine to pay a porn star not to blab to your pregnant wife. However, it is, apparently, not fine to falsify your business records to cover up that you paid her.
Who'd a thunk it?
As has been stated this is probably the tip of the iceberg. The GA indictments when they come are potentially more serious as are the likely indictments rising from the Jack Smith investigation that seems to be ramping up exponentially. Then there's the E Jean Carroll case which is moving forward and, presumably, there are banks that are going to be getting very nervous and who may start asking for their money back.
But 34 indictments in NY is a good start and presumably they are going to cover more than just the Stormy affair. Stormy has suggested that Trump is far from well endowed and the prospect of her giving evidence about his 3in appendage in court (hopefully televised) and the embarrassment that will cause to the Mango Mussolini is something to anticipate.
He will obviously get bail when he is arraigned next week but (depending on the exact nature of the charges) it will be interesting to see if the judge imposes any restrictions. Electronic tag? Gag order? Impound the 757? Surrender his passport? Probably none of those but who knows? The thing Trump fears most is personal humiliation. Let's hope he gets plenty.
