I accept that schools/councils have the authority to make decisions that they think to the benefit to their pupils taking into account all their children's and teacher's needs. That is the extent of my argument.
And there it is. People like you who believe important decisions should be based on a hunch or a think, rather than the facts. It has been proven that masks are of no benefit in a school environment, but you'd like the option for them to be continued with anyway, just on the basis of someone thinking they might be a good idea.
Madness.

I was in the Gym this morning and saw a strange occurrence, a woman walks in masked up, fair enough, then does her work out with no mask on, using a treadmill directly between two other people doing the same, the woman didn't wear a mask nor did anyone else in the gym, she continued her workout around the gym unmasked amongst everyone else, she then went off to get changed and walked out of the gym across the same gym floor she had been on for the last hour fully masked again to get herself outside.
Each to their own but I would have been interested to ask her on what her thought process was
No thought process...that's the 'problem'!Each to their own but I would have been interested to ask her on what her thought process was
Was out earlier and saw a family walking down the street, urban area, no shops and no people at all about. Young lad, about 12 years old, mask strapped across his face (the rest of the family unmasked).
I get it, entirely his choice, but I do feel sad that kids like this seem afraid to go outside without a mask on.

Have sympathy for us in Scotland. Still the law here and 95% compliance in supermarkets. That said I have not been challenged when not wearing one.
Just sick and tired of it. Sturgeon will have us wearing masks for years.
It's so weird that people there don't look at England with no mask mandate and no bodies piling up in the streets and think 'hang on a minute...'Just sick and tired of it. Sturgeon will have us wearing masks for years.
Or perhaps they do but the urge to comply is just too strong.

Back to the subject of masks, I see the poll is settling at 86% no longer going to bother, which is a huge improvement on the poll run last time that mandate was dropped.
It does appear that people are getting bored with the theatrics.
I'm currently sat on a suburban commuter train heading into Waterloo, and I'd estimate that only about a third of people are wearing masks. It does appear that people are getting bored with the theatrics.
Before this latest restriction, it would've been well in excess of 90%.
I get the feeling that pretty much everyone seems to be of the view that the Christmas restrictions were completely unnecessary, and as a result I cannot manage the government ever managing to impose new ones again.
That said, it does seem that a lot of people enjoy the drama of it all and don't seem to want it to stop.

Just seen this crap on twitter
Just tell people ‘could if we could prove it’ not ‘can help’. Bloody nonsense!
Edit to add I suppose it’s a good thing they are saying it’s not a legal requirement but surely people knew that a week ago! Although clearly a lot of people are still happy to go with it. Bizarre.

2020 really was the year that science died and was replaced by The Science (crap like this) wasn't it? Just tell people ‘could if we could prove it’ not ‘can help’. Bloody nonsense!

It’s baffling people choosing to wear one, yep. I am wondering how long my colleagues are going to put up with it.
They quite happily wear them and I don’t and I am quite happy not to. It’s really strange oh well, I let them crack on.
Ok, but what about the people who wear them on their chin, or covering their mouths but not their nose? Walking into work this morning, about 1% of the people were wearing masks but 50% of those were wearing them with their nose or mouth sticking out. They quite happily wear them and I don’t and I am quite happy not to. It’s really strange oh well, I let them crack on.
Are people really this desperate to 'fit in'?

There are now whole industries that have grown up around the Gov's response to Covid. From marshalls to the track and tracers to PPE suppliers. All of these people have a vested interest in keeping the fear high, and restrictions/recommendations ongoing.
Precisely this. Add in those who've been attentively listening to all of the government and media fear propaganda and not only think that death lurks around every corner, but that everyone wearing a mask will save them, and those who's otherwise dull lives have been enlivened by 'living in a horror movie', and there's still plenty of momentum for the mask fans. I cannot see the Chief Mammy lifting restrictions any time soon. All in the name of difference, and to be seen as more virtuous than them there bastirts south of the border. Also a nod to her batst crazy brethren in Canada and New Zealand.
It will be very interesting to see whether England does better for infections than Scotland and Wales again as a result of dropping the mask mandate. 21TonyK said:
Like I said there is a small % of the population, in fact its about 565,000 people who are currently told to work from home, only meet wth people who are vaccinated, get visitors to test before meeting, can get NHS volunteers to do their shopping etc.
Basically house arrest. And theres no end date.
How is that different to flu, and what did we do previously in a bad flu season?Basically house arrest. And theres no end date.
What would you suggest we do?
isaldiri said:
Well the point still remains - it's not 'house arrest' but 'advice' for people who might want to choose to take additional precautions for their own sake - exactly as they would or should have in prior years when flu was at relatively high incidence like winter of 2017/18.
Precisely. Also, struggling more than a little to comprehend what any of this has to do with masks?

Well done.
Fair enough I guess, at least we know where you're coming from.
Bonkers.

Well there you go. Two ill informed, overly vocal posters spouting off about something they have no knowledge of.
Well done.
I’m a bit lost with your points, are you arguing with yourself?Well done.
Even TDK and his buddies have gone quiet now 'but the government are experts and they say we should wear masks' is no longer valid.
I think it's a bit sad really. Some people are just desperate to hang on to them, but even they don't know why.
The government sure did a good job on them...
