It has, I agree, been a real eye opener!

My favourite was the Government advert that joggers and dog walkers were, 'highly likely' to have Covid! A lie so outrageous that the Government's own Advertising Standards Agency forced them to pull it!

There was absolutely no evidence to support the claim, they simply made it up to scare people!

And we wonder why some of our more gullible members of the public are still strapping themselves into 'face coverings' every day...
Jesus! I must have missed that ad, that’s scandalous.
I remember that one - I was one of those sad people who reported it to the ASA.

And there are those that say that the you tube grifters spread misinformation (they may do) but the government was far from honest in what they put out.

That’s some bad ad. Scaremongering at its finest.

Quick question folks. I'm due to fly to Texas tomorrow via BA - should I bring my lanyard or will masks be optional on the way over?
If you have a genuine medical exemption then why are you worried?
Not entirely sure if asking a quick question on a forum on what to pack for a trip counts as being "worried" tbh.
Who do you think may be better placed to answer your question?

BA or randoms on a thread you subscribe to?
Well by asking "randos on a thread I subscribe to" I got the correct answer in about 40 minutes, if I'd asked BA I would have waited until I got to the airport the next day.

What a bizarre comment - are you new to internet forums? Y'know places where people discuss stuff?

Honestly, it's absolutely shocking that the general public is so indifferent to all of this, they should be demanding heads on spikes for the way that they have been lied to and manipulated.

But apparently it's all 'no biggie'.

Sadly, we seem to get the society that we collectively deserve...
I think a lot of people who followed these nonsense rules don’t want to admit that their were manipulated, so revert to ‘it was the right thing to do at the time’.

Some other still believe all this nonsense and continue to mask up and sanitise their hands whenever they go anywhere.

Continuing with enhanced hand hygiene procedures isn't a bad thing. I've had that rammed into me for many years as a cruise ship employee, but it is pretty sensible for most people as a routine really.

I detested all those TV and radio info ads with Mark Strong doing the voice overs, it was pretty much propeganda!

No worries, maybe see you there. Amerian politics, in general, is pretty surreal, and the last few years have been something of a peak in that regard. (Hopefully!).
This thread isn’t the place, but lol. American democrats love the mask. We are done with it.

Most of the American side of my family are Dems, and none of them 'love' masks. Most ordinary people can't wait to see the back of them.

That’s positive Paul. Please help encourage people to not be worried about masks or distance. I encourage hugging too. Remember the old days when we could hug?!

I do. It's taking some time to get back to normal, I think there will be people out there who may never shake hands with a stranger again, and that's really sad. In my business of cruise ships, there are still crew employed to obsessively wipe down surfaces as soon as anyone leaves a table, despite the fact that we've known for a long time that covid doesn't spread to any significant degree via surfaces. It's frustrating and illogical.

Would be easier if there was a like button but maybe Elon might buy these one day!

Totally get your frustration.

I am in positive mode right now, it IS going to be ok. Actually maybe better than ok if you think positively enough. Talking to others helps because we all have views too. Point is I don’t want to be inclusive when people tell me to do something that never made sense. Quite a few of us are angry that gov used sinister tactics.

Hopefully someone understands what I mean.

I understand completely.

It has felt deeply disturbing the way that the government and big tech used coercion, outright lies and the shutting down of any even questioning voices (think Talkradio having their entire YouTube channel removed for daring to question whether lockdowns made sense or the BBC's blatant transformation into the HMRC propaganda channel).

Add to that the public being vocally encouraged to report on their neighbours, police forces taking on powers that they just didn't have and even absurdities like Derbyshire Police officers pouring black water dye into a beauty spot lake pool “to make the water look less appealing”.

Not to mention, of course, 'face coverings' being forced onto adults and children with zero evidence that they had any positive effect (and indeed plenty, as it turns out, that they were in fact harmful).

Above all I am absolutely shocked that the general public consensus on all of this seems to be a shrug and a 'it's no biggie'.

Covid is, hopefully, over. But these Big Brother tactics are now (unchallenged) part of the government playbook and are here to stay.

My place of work are finally recinding the requirement to mask up and social distance in non clinical settings from Monday.

With a caveat they will wind it back if whatever whatever something something happens......

That’s late, most employers stopped the requirement ages ago. Do you work in healthcare?

Sitting at the table earlier which has a view directly outside and to the opposite houses, something catches my eye so I look up, standing just outside of her front door is the woman opposite (I don't know them), she is masked up, just standing, waiting with the front door open, a few moments later a man appears (assume her husband) through the door, he too is masked, he closes the door and they both wander off together up the road, both still masked, literally no one else about!
