The internet is full of people discussing who was their favourite Beatle, which was the best 80s hot hatch, who killed Dirty Den and all sorts of other weird stuff that most people have moved on from. Stuff which by any sensible measure is far less important than this. Do you go round correcting them all, or just here?
George.
Mk1 GTI obvs. Had three. MBX 969Y (1800) was last one.

But it’s the wacky stuff that’s the most dangerous.

Surely you can see that?

It’s the wacky stuff that the vulnerable gravitate towards, as constantly evidenced here. It should be called out when seen.

By saying ‘mostly I can't be bothered to continually insult people when it comes up again’ you’re saying that you’ve insulted them before, would you not agree?
Is that an admission of apathy?
Do you think that’s helpful?

I don’t.
Yes I did find at times that discussion with some posters was so pointless on some topics I found it difficult to not start being at minimum rather sarcastic if not outright insulting. It also became fairly clear further discussion was not going to result in anything more reasonable so I was happy to simply ignore/scroll past some names. there is a line I'm going to draw when I don't want to think I'm intentionally provoking someone who may or may not have problems any further. Plenty of people on your side are happy to do so - I'm not.

Is it apathy? Perhaps. is it helpful? I don't know. I do think however it's better than continually insulting people. Just me though.

As for the wacky stuff being the most dangerous - well I disagree. or at least I disagree that constantly seeking to demean and insult those people is necessarily the best way to persuade others that it is indeed wacky.

I don't think there's much more wacky than the response to covid. Believing the world is run by satan worshipping reptiles from outer space is an eccentric foible by comparison.

Agree on George Harrison though.

With most of the longer threads on PH, I find it impossible to respond to every post; there's just too many. But you soon learn to scroll past those who add no value, and read and think about the ones which do.

In the case of this thread, there's a few posters who simply belittle, mock and insult. It's easy to see who they are and easy to ignore them. To be fair, I do the same for the posts about conspiracy theories too.

That leaves intelligent contributions from several long time residents of this thread. You guys are helping me to digest the madness - and it was a sort of madness - that we saw starting three years ago. So thank you for that, and just ignore the sneering posters who tell you to 'move on'; works for me.

I assumed there would be some really explosive st that would land our leadership in serious trouble - some commentators suggested the really juicy stuff would come out, but apart from confirming how useless, hypocritical & egotistical the likes of wkcock are, there really hasn't been any properly incriminating stuff.
I popped in here with the same question.

Seems to have been ignored, which is the way it seems.

We are on to a crappy Budget and banks collapsing now.

Even the news channel I work for doesn't talk about Ukraine anymore.

Move on, nothing to see here.

That song is loosely a protest song about not protesting.

Perfect for this thread.

This probably wants updated to show the banks. But yeah, the sheep will always follow whatever the media tells them. Covid is a distant memory for most people, despite the economic and social implications that will perpetuate for years and decades to come. Government and media have done a great job of shifting the narrative away from any possibility of revealing inconvenient truths.

I guess the point is that as far as the telegraph lockdown files are concerned, there really isn't much new to see. As Biker1 says, there hasn't been anything really explosive or incriminating that's been released. Amusing tittle tattle confirming what an idiot Hancock (and Simon case) but otherwise.....hardly a surprise the news focus has moved on I'd have thought.

It is about the way that most of us settle for mundanity rather than trying to build a better world for ourselves, even if that brings loneliness and injustice.

Rather like the scene in The Matrix when Cypher betrays everyone:

My feeling is that the Telegraph wanted to bring the lockdown files into the public domain, whilst retaining their broadly Conservative values. The focus has been on what Hancock did rather than a partisan attack on a Govt that is supposed to represent the political philosopy of their readership.

I signed up for a membership trial in order to read the relevant articles. This also gives access to readers comments which broadly fall into two camps:

1. General dislike for lockdown and the way that the Govt clearly lied and manipulated for political expedience
2. A view that the Telegraph is betraying its readership and helping Labour win the next general election

If I am surprised at anything it is that they went so far with the story. Hancocks incompetence was front page news every day for a week. In the end, the 'fickle finger of fate' moves on to the next story. So we get Gary Linkekar followed by the Tories and Labour using our pensions as a political football.

In the meantime, it is just one more step in dismantling the thinking that allowed lockdown and every step toward that reduces the risk of it happening again. It is also the end of Hancocks political career. Not a moment too soon.

So what has been revealed that is explosive or incriminating according to you by the telegraph then?

I'd agree with the latter comment. the former however is imo much less clear.

Not so much a revelation to me but a bold underlining of the fact that this was never a case of "following the science" to fight a disease but a bunch of idiots chasing poll ratings and headlines without giving a toss about the long term consequences.

Pretty much as I thought all along, but hopefully this has helped bring it to a wider audience who will be that much more alert to such twaddle in future.

I read somewhere last week that there were some real explosive texts in those WhatsApp messages but were being held back.

I can’t source the article as I can’t recall where I read it.

The media cover what is news of the day. At the moment its the Budget and large banks collapsing in the US. Would you prefer they just talked about Covid?

What happened when the Telegraph leaked all the whatsapp messages? Was that story not on loop 24 hours a day for a few weeks? Was that the media shifting the narrative onto Covid?
