Russia invades Ukraine. Volume 2
Discussion
If you were Macron or Sholz and Putin had just said this to you, what would your reaction be - freeze in confused disbelief at what you'd just heard, or loose control and burst out laughing at the sheer idiocy of the guy.
Vladimir Putin tells France’s Macron and Germany’s Scholz that continuing arms supplies to Ukraine is ‘dangerous’. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/28/putin-war...

A shadow of those that steadfastly fought the 'real' Nazis in WW2.
What an embarrassment. The Russian Bear has been stuffed.
They're going that a few of those guys are still around and can remember how to fight....What an embarrassment. The Russian Bear has been stuffed.

A video of Ukrainian dead passing through a town, think Wootton Bassett on a large scale, a container instead of a hearse, its important to remember good people are dieing out there.
Acknowledging that we are likely only shown ‘positives’ in news reports - the Ukrainian peoples bravery, resolve, dignity and sense of humour are deeply impressive (and humbling).mondeoman said:
Let me guess - all the fault of the US / NATO, if anyone supplies help then its just being escalatory, the grain crisis is all Ukraine's fault, Nazis, we'll nuke you if you dont give us what we want.
Not really. It was more about saying they never had an intention to take Kyiv, their concern was about protecting the independent regions of the Donbas, the war crime accusations in Bucha etc were designed to derail the peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, which he claims up to that point were progressing constructively. And Russia won't use a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine as it wouldn't be allowed according to their military doctrine. EddieSteadyGo said:

With something that can plausibly be presented as a victory domestically, this sounds like the Russian foreign ministry looking to start the walk-back to normalised diplomatic relations and an easing of sanctionsliner33 said:

France and Germany calling for negotiated settlement
They have to , Russia has them over a "oil" barrel , they cannot cope without Russian oil and gas , they need this sorted before the cold weather comes Sway said:
They're still getting Russian oil and gas... That's irrelevant.
Hardly irrelevantOn May 4, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen announced the European Union would seek to ban all imports of Russian crude oil within six months and ban petroleum product imports by the end of the year*
Unfortunately this will be extremely hard to implement so the EU needs to the conflict to end before they really need to implement any sanctions
- I remain unconvinced the EU has any intention of banning Russian imports whatever happens in Ukraine

They aren't going to abandon their imports ever, at most they'll make a weak token effort. Same as they have so far with everything.

They were always the weak link, it's been said for weeks.
It's not for Germany and France to call for settlement. If they fked themselves with Russian crack, wear it.
Their negotiating hand is weak. Even if they want the crack to flow, Ukraine and other Western allies are playing a different end game. Ukraine needs Russia to fk off, if they do - that puts the onus on the US and UK to rethink.
Every single weapon system needed should now be delivered into Ukraine.
The ongoing attrition of Russian military resources, and the long term sanctions, could see this make Russia an expired force everywhere.
Every NLAW we have should go. Every javelin. There’s no other target on the horizon that we’d need an ATGM reserve for is there? Use them all. Buy more. Send them too.
They also need to be able to hit deeper into the supply chain to stall the Russians now. They need long range guided weapons. They need to hit more than 50 miles into the rear.
The Ukrainians need the ability to take the war away Tom the front line.
