The regulations and procedures surrounding nuclear material are crazy!
In a job I had years ago, I had to travel to Sellafield to remove a couple of small, depleted, isotopes from some equipment. I had to place them into protective containers and these were then shipped to the manufacturer so they could be disposed of officially.
For disposal of nuclear material there are very few specialised sites in Europe.
These ones were sent to...

Wait for it....

Sellafield!

Bloody bureaucracy!
That place is certainly a special case.

I am struggling to get my head around the fact that nothing can be done to cut the head off this madman.

Surely dodgy stuff must be going on. Or has this just really got to me?

Money talks and morals can take a back seat when you face global nuclear oblivion.

Are MI6, CIA, Mosad or whoever, talking to Russian organised criminals? Doing deals to secure the downfall of Putin.

Are IS, AQ, the Taliban being talked to and encouraged to cause issues with Russia in exchange for recognition, aid, territory.

I honestly think I’ve gone a bit mad by even suggesting this.

I must admit I have spent two weeks feeling nauseous about all this, makes me feel a bit pathetic when I see what the Ukranians are going through, and even to an extent all those young Russian lads sent in as cannon fodder, 12000 potentially, young men largely in their prime blown up or shot, it is satisfying seeing an enemy Russian tank destroyed but this isnt Star Wars, its real life, thats another family affected by the madmans actions.

But, fairly keen on not being vapourised, its not the being dead bit, something has to get you but kind of hoping that it would be a bit longer and a bit more of the Shane Warne school of stylish exits than "Whats that flash, ow......" at the hands of a fking weird looking insane Russian pensioner who has been allowed to fulfill his st Bond villain fantasy as he is getting old, ill and bored. He is either the figurehead of something even more unpleasant or just its a whole country indulging the bell end.

He is now running out of steam and round two I suspect will involve dragging Nato in and maybe getting his best toys out, when that goes badly then act 3 is when he gets into pushing buttons.

Spent 28 years having a family, kind of keen that doesn't end abruptly, as are several hundred million others potentially. Also keen on not surviving to watch my skin hang down my legs like some pink legwarmers whilst trying to catch a rat for dinner.

Its made me feel, and my mate I was chatting to yesterday, whats the fking point in a lot of things ? Was losing weight, being good, no booze but kind of wondering why bother, just indulge in some gratification whilst I can, either in case it does go to nukes, or just cant get anything because the supply chain is fked. Was going to re roof my man shed but if its going to blown off, dont think I will bother

Suspect we all may end up as a footnote in history, we become the second dinosaurs that in a thousand years a new society talks about with an air of what a bunch of fking idiots, but let it be said, its really only a few, rest of us just want to get on with watching Netflix, shagging, eating, occasional Gym visit going to the pub, diy tasks, holidays, pornhub, cars and video games.

Was on an RAF base yesterday, that felt weird as that would be first to go being military, right near London and its never been a more realistic possibility

But, though I will never get used to what I see on the telly, the existential dread has subsided somewhat and finding sleep a bit easier, key is not to look at this thread overnight or read the news, I nearly papped the bed when I read about the nuclear plant as the story was it had been blown up, rather than a training building being hit, my pulse went from 50 to 127 on reading that according to my watch, never, ever read a news headline and reacted like that.

To be honest, I dont want to know if its coming, I go from utter dread to minimal optimism depending on someones words online, usually someone like me that even if they did have decent info would still most likely talk bks.

Just want to see Putin ousted and some less insane Russians take over who say "Sorry about him, he gets a bit cranky when he is hungry, we have tortured and murdered him, want to see the video ?"

And I am getting to thinking, just crack on as normal and not let things go south, keep exercising, not too much booze and just do normal stuffas chances are we wont get nuked and if we do I will be dead so wont have to worry about it.

The worst bit of this is watching the death and destruction, its like watching your dog being attacked by someones big dog who then threatens you with being shot if you try and stop it, never felt quite like this before but it has got easier, just dont want to get desentiised to it, also dont want to knacker my own mental health fixating on it, very little really bothers me but this has, it feels like a bereavement, the sadness that sometimes goes when you are distracted doing normal stuff, then you re reminded and another wave of grief and regret washes over you.

I donated a few quid last night, made me feel a tiny bit better, cant do much, but it helps them and it helped me in a small way.

Bloody brilliant……

I couldn't have written it better myself …. As I feel absolutely the same way about this. I also gave a little something to help out, It’s the least I could do.

How long before the Russians empty several million gallons of crude oil just off our coastline if we turn them away ? Not saying we shouldn't, but wouldnt put it past them.
The oil will sell for 10p on the pound to poor countries in Africa or North Korea who don't care; it will be smuggled and russia will make a lot less money from it.
Surely the Chinese will just buy it all at a reduced price
Not sure the Chinese would do that
They will just stick to their pre agreed quota .
They won't want to be seen as underhanding.

I didnt think the USA technically wanted to be ones giving the jets. Has it actually been settled? . I get Poland are a neighbour, but Russia are going to be annoyed either way. Just get on with it!

“The authorities of the Republic of Poland, after consultations between the President and the Goverment, are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Rammstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America. “

McDonalds now shutting up shop in Russia, as are a lot of KFC stores. (Sky News).
62k employees in Russia…
…and they have said they will continue to pay them as well as s the ones in Ukraine
I think all the Russians should be sacked off I’m afraid. Not paid to do nothing. We need them all to understand what THEIR country, THEIR military, THEIR leader is doing.
There is a balancing act to play here, we are not at war with the Russian people or Russia, but Putin. Mix these up & you will lose.
I agree that we are not at war with the Russian people. But I am not sure that paying furlough to all the employees of McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken sends quite the right message.

And, as a fully paid up member of the Peoples' Republic of Liverpool, posting this really goes against the grain.

The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MIG-29 jets – to act in the same vein.

Big.

That probably means Russian anti air stuff like S300s possessed by EU countries might be on the cards too. Though I think only Slovakia and Bulgaria have any.

I wonder how many of Poland's 44 planes are actually flyable.

The newsflow reads a bit more negatively tonight regarding the Russians sorting their logistical problems and going for Kiev this week.

Going to be a tough watch if they go for it.

Russian crims? If they haven't sought to get Putin whilst he was not in a bunker, why would they now.

Afghanistan? Doubt it.

The us basically created people like Osama bin Laden by aiding them to fight against the Soviets, so it's not as if it hasn't happened before.

Nice

So the USA will now supply them to Ukraine under its existing foreign military aid programmes.

Germany will fix them up 1st.

And Poland will buy a bunch of new/refurbished US jets at a reduced price.
