I see Beff from Sky News is up to her usual standard, "Who do you blame for your 6 years in jail and why is it Boris?"
What seems to be forgotten is that she's a dual citizen. If you're a dual citizen of a democracy and an authoritarian state, then when you're in the authoritarian state you're less well protected than someone who is simply a visiting overseas national - they can treat you as one of their own and lock you up for whatever they damn well please.
She must have understood this, yet apparently it's the UK government's fault (even though they spent £380m of taxpayers money getting her back).
I'm not a fan of this government but her view seems very one sided.

How do you explain the other chap, never mentioned in dispatches by Boris as far as I'm aware, who was there for the same amount of time?
The Iranian govt were going to treat both of these (and the chap who's now back in jail I believe) like ste until we paid the money and, I suspect, started talking about easing up on sanctions now they're not the no1 bad guys on the planet for a bit.
Any dual national citizen going to Iran should be deemed "on their own". When they're over there, they are Iranian and subject to Iranian government processes. There should be zero expectation that any dual nation will help/even be able to.
I'm sure none of us have been involved in international diplomatic relations, including NZR. They are clearly something that cannot be banged into MS Project and expected to be resolved by the end date (Terry Whaite wasn't exactly tied to a radiator for 5mins...Boris was only 23 then...but thinking about it, that whole situation was probably his fault too ).
I explain it because the Iranian regime is an appalling one and they don't need any excuses to behave appallingly. The Iranian govt were going to treat both of these (and the chap who's now back in jail I believe) like ste until we paid the money and, I suspect, started talking about easing up on sanctions now they're not the no1 bad guys on the planet for a bit.

But his stupid ill-judged comments didn't help her.
No thank you to the UK Government for obtaining her release, then?
And within days, appearing for a press conference to have a dig.... hmmm, political much!
No smoke without fire, and her protestations that she was only 'visiting family' when arrested in Iran, doesn't hold water either, IMO.
Shut up Naz, and enjoy being back with your family in the UK, you're safe now.

She came across badly in the press conference.
My partner is ex TR, and knows a handful of people that do not have the most flattering view of her. But for obvious reasons nothing will get said. Horrible ordeal of course and pleased she is home but as a dual national that could be judged any way her other adopted nation decides is right - truthfully should never have been our problem and she was smart enough to know that and arrogant enough to flaunt it and then fell foul of it.

Logically, they made precisely zero difference. But his stupid ill-judged comments didn't help her.
No.
It was stupid and irresponsible to say what he said and it's daft for you to pretend otherwise.

She was only visiting family, arrested and accused of being a journalist, which she wasn't, she was teaching journalism. Then Boris went there as Home Secretary, having done zero homework and made a speech saying she was just a journalist and the Iranians went "Aha - your PM agrees with us" and lengthened her sentence substantially. And within days, appearing for a press conference to have a dig.... hmmm, political much!

She spent 6 years in a stty Iranian prison as a political pawn in a game between Iran and the U.K. government. Boris did his level best to make things worse. What the hell do you expect? Of course she is not going to be grateful. And within days, appearing for a press conference to have a dig.... hmmm, political much!

Just been catching up on the news... Can we send her back?
I thought she was a spy, hence the big song and dance about her. But it seems she is self entitled political voice.
Can UK banks do chargebacks for £400m?
Bet she will rise through the ranks in the Labour Party quite quickly now !!I thought she was a spy, hence the big song and dance about her. But it seems she is self entitled political voice.

And this is the crux of my general replies to your whining, only here we have as decent a logical test as we are ever likely to get.
Three people were incarcerated for about the same amount of time at the same time. Boris commented on one. All three released at the same time. One was even sent back to jail... Who Boris never commented on.
The logical conclusion you draw is grrrr Boris.
The Iranian government (all British ones since the Shah too perhaps) and NZR are the ones at "fault" here. Period.

Of course the Iranian Government are the ones at fault but Johnson's comments didn't help her one little bit.
Literally name me one positive or benefit to Nazanin from his comments? Just one.
It's as if whatever fk up he makes you feel pathologically compelled to come up with some sort of defence or mitigation for him.

Don’t come on here with your lardy dah facts, attacking peoples’ misconceptions and highlighting how easy it is to get sucked into the hateful bile that so many now seem to feed off. She spent six years in prison because she was a spy, Liz Truss got her out with the help of Boris and it cost us £400m, which makes the £32bn spent on T&T look a right old bargain just now. Stop bleating and send her back I say. I'd say shes got every right to be pissed off with Boris.
