Legacy blue ticks were supposed to end today, they haven't gone yet though.

As any number of people have pointed out, every other social media platform has found a way to reward their most significant and valuable content creators.

Musk wants them to pay him.

These high profile accounts are the lifeblood of the platform and it appears that a significant number are not going to pay.

I see the Whitehouse won't be paying for verification, nor allowing staff members to claim back Twitter Blue costs as expenses.
https://www.axios.com/2023/03/31/twitter-verificat...

I think this quote from the internal email sums up the problem with Twitter Blue perfectly:-
"It is our understanding that Twitter Blue does not provide person-level verification as a service. Thus, a blue check mark will now simply serve as a verification that the account is a paid user,"
They should get dimots in to explain it to them hehe

I thought this was an interesting take from a former employee:

Any thoughts on the AI pause letter?

Not interesting.

OK.
Just bitter over OpenAI having some success with ChatGPT now he isn't involved? Elon was getting a bit salty the other day about the money he'd put in and how others were now getting the benefit.

AI is fine when it's driving & crashing his cars, but lethal when it's a chatbot.
And if the reports are true, Musk got really upset when he tried to take over OpenAI and was pushed back. Got salty and walked away from his investment. Claimed it was due to ‘conflicts of interest’, but I think we know what would have happened.

https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/24/23654701/openai...

Suits Musk’s narrative to claim that its all terrible because he’s not directly involved and he has an axe to grind.

It's a very interesting piece from someone close to twitter in the past, and makes a lot of very good points, many of which have been brought up her, making the whole point of the verified process, which has now been thrown out the window in Musks desperation for money after tanking it himself.

Musk lost in court, with a judge ruling that Elon Musk broke labor law with a 2018 tweet about Tesla employees' stock options.
The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals also said Musk threatened staff that he'd strip their stock options if they joined a union, breaking Federal laws, and upheld the reinstatement by Tesla of a worker fired for leading unionising efforts.

Not for me, although I am seeing stories that Musk is personally dictating accounts which should have their blue tick removed. First up was the New York Times which shock horror, was critical of Elon recently.

The man baby's pursuit of free speech continues

Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of work for those busy engineers smile
Wonder how high they'll manage to push the power consumption on the 'off' car with all these things active or sitting monitoring; they already seem to burn a significant amount of power just to sit parked.
I might be wrong as I don’t have a Tesla, but I’d be suspicious about Musk’s claim the car is always kept in a ‘warm’ condition when switched off. They’ve felt cold when getting into them here in Norway during winter. They’d have big issues with battery depletion keeping it warm all the time at -20c for example.

They've changed the wording for blue ticks now, so you can't tell if they're "properly" verified or just someone who pays Twitter.

Musk said that all companies need to pay to keep the tick but then back-tracked:

https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/internet/twitter-blue...

So it seems that the top 10,000 most followed and top 500 advertisers get to keep the tick. Ok, so a change in policy. But of course, it’s down to the personal preferences of Musk though. NYT lost theirs because Musk doesnt like them. And US government agencies arent supposed to be spending the money.

This is free speech right? This is what Musk said wasn’t it? Create a global town square where people can talk and discuss without the tyranny of censorship. Except you need to pay money and if Musk doesn’t like you, you dont get to play.

Still think it’s all about free speech?

Anyone know the state of the class action against Tesla where owners are demanding their $10k back they paid for self driving that hasn't happened?
Last I saw the SEC were involved.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/31/technology/tesl...

We know Musk lied about the capabilities, from testimony from Tesla's director of Autopilot software, Ashok Elluswamy.

Elluswamy told the court the route was planned and 3D mapped in advance, it took multiple takes to get a run without the need for human intervention, and – according to the engineer – the car even hit a fence when trying to demonstrate automatic parking.

Of the video, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the time: "Tesla drives itself (no human input at all) thru urban streets to highway to streets, then finds a parking spot." Tesla's page for the video describes it as an example of the full self-driving hardware that comes standard in all Tesla's.

Big Doge pump obviously on the horizon.

Either that or the chief twit accidentally played with the wrong site setting.

I can think of a couple of people here who would think so.

But to anyone with half a brain. No.
