I hate big TV’s, but my wife loves them. We looked at getting a Samsung ‘the frame’ as a compromise, but too expensive, so went for a 200 foot (or at least it seems like it) Hisense (ok, it’s 75”).

To be fair, the picture is fantastic.

However, in typical style, my wife spends most of her time watching films on her iPad, and we barely use the telly.

Including the media stuff (router, bt box, Xbox), what would the easiest way to ‘hide’ it, or at least make it less conspicuous? It’s a 250 year old house, very solid walls, so I want something at least reasonably sympathetic to a listed property. Best I can think is to box it in, with anything with any ‘depth’ (like the Xbox) mounted vertically. But we would need some form of roller/tambour type arrangement to easily watch tv, as there isn’t any room for opening doors on either side (which would look horrible in use anyway).

Any tips, or pictures of solutions welcome. Excuse the mess, the dogs had just murdered their new dog bed…

Secret rotating wall that spins round at the touch of a button to reveal the TV...

Or in a slightly more practical suggestion, how about a ceiling mounted projector with a pull-down screen? If you're wife values a few extra inches, then you should be able to get one that gives a picture bigger than 75", and when not in use everything is out of sight on the ceiling

How about wall mount and box it in behind a pair of doors?

Swap the TV for a projector, don't bother with a screen, just use the painted white wall. It's what I've done in our loft conversion, which is used as a lounge but I wanted to avoid the room dominated by TV effect that you don't like. It's ace.

To make way for the telly nuts

The hard bit to hide is the big grey unit underneath. Is it actually needed or can it go in favour of something more discreet?

Agree with this. Wallmounting the TV will go a long way towards tidying things up but you'd need to find somewhere to put the XBox etc. A narrow media cabinet to one side would look a whole lot better I think.

It’s a spare fan heater. We have a multi fuel in a more obvious space.

Nope, that can go - it’s from our old (much more modern) house, and wasn’t cheap, but hey, that’s what FB marketplace is for (not the wife, as previous poster suggested, I’m quite keen on her).

Take a picture of the wall then use that as a screensaver on the TV.

With the big grey box gone that's not actually a stupid idea...

OP, what would you really like on that wall? If you could cope with a bookcase, make a fake one that opens out... or as said, just curtains so it looks like there's a window behind.

Maybe red velvet ones with 'That's All Folks!' written on it hehe

Interesting idea which I might pursue! Wall at back is brick/stone, so will need some chasing in, but I’m a geologist by training and know how to cut stone… (as well as destroy stuff, it’s a fine line)
