E63 S AMG Wagon - new family car!
Discussion
Evening,
Last week I picked up a 2019 E63 S AMG Estate to move the family and dog about. For those not in the know it uses the 4.0 twin turbo V8 currently found in several Mercedes’ and Astons.
In the E63 S it’s good for 612ps and 627lb (850nm), mated to a 9spd twin clutch trans and 4matic+ rear biased 4wd.
I’ve done 400miles so far and it’s fab, it’s extremely comfy and has a fab sound system for cruising around with the kids.
But stick it in race mode and it’s frankly ridiculous, I knew it would be quick but it picks up pace at a frightening speed and my local rural Somerset roads soon feel a bit too small! For a car of its size it handles incredibly well, the brakes have to work hard but are up to the job at 390mm.
Fuel economy as expected is laughable - however I bought the car wanting another silly engine before we’re all driving milk floats.
The car launches very hard and late AMG mercs have a track/race function that can measure lap times, acceleration - you name it.
Anyway on Friday night I stuck it on and chucked launch control on - this was 3up, full tank and on private land.
Cheers for looking…

What do the family make of it after the last car!?!

Yes you are correct with the location. Family love it, the Mrs thinks it’s completely OTT (which it is), but loves a car herself so appreciates it!What do the family make of it after the last car!?!

An estate that launches as fast as a McLaren F1 to 100 mph. Incredible. Congrats. These sound the nuts as well!
When you say the mpg is bad I'm guessing what like 12 mpg when you're caning it and 30 mpg if you just cruised at 60 mph?
I’ve not done enough miles yet. But I don’t think it’s ever going to see a number with a 3 on it. I reckon I’ll probably average 18/20 with normal use but we’ll see. When you say the mpg is bad I'm guessing what like 12 mpg when you're caning it and 30 mpg if you just cruised at 60 mph?
As for the acceleration, yea it’s daft for a 2.1t car. I tried it again this morning but in the sopping wet to see how the 4wd coped and it posted 3.8 to 62mph.

You'll never want to get rid of it!
I still have the E63 wagon that I bought as the family car back in 2010. It still looks the part, it still goes like stink and, every time I test drove anything with a view to replacing it, I get out saying to myself "yeah, that was nice - but not £xk nicer than the AMG"
Wife has moved on to an XC90 as the family bus so the E63 is my runabout now.

I thought the same earlier. I won’t be looking to buy another car for sometime now to be fair, but to be impressed by the acceleration it’s going to have to be a McLaren…I still have the E63 wagon that I bought as the family car back in 2010. I think the next car will be much older, NA and manual. Get my kicks from actually driving the thing!
I also had a 2019 E63S as our family hack until very recently - wasn't going to be doing the miles any more so i sold it back to the MB dealer that supplied it (when it was a 3 month old demo). Cost me £9k in depreciation for 22,000 miles of motoring, which was much better than i had expected back in the summer of 2019.
They are brilliant cars, tick all boxes. And surprisingly eco on a run, i used to get 27-28 mpg on runs between London and Cornwall, and i wasn't sat at 70 mph....long gearing you see, works a treat.
These kind of cars will be banned (or just socially uncomfortable to own) in the not too distant future i fear, so gets some whilst you can.
enjoy

I am tempted to make the move to one of these from my F10 M5 for the daily... it's this or an X5M competition....
I have had a lot of BMW's for daily's, but never a Merc - are their servicing costs as horrific as everyone says?
Not at all. In 12 years of ownership, servicing has been between £400 - £1k per annumI have had a lot of BMW's for daily's, but never a Merc - are their servicing costs as horrific as everyone says?
I absolutely love it! By coincidence, I was looking at these on Pistonheads Classified only yesterday.
A few years ago, I had an E63 Estate with the 6.2 litre normally aspirated engine, which I PX'd for an AMG GTS. Before that there was a C63 Estate and an M5 Touring, so you'll see that I love a fast estate and the urge is upon me again.
Enjoy it!
