Do the working class have the necessary cash to travel by train?

Unless its a Man U fan travelling from Denham to Wembley on their own

Cheers

The Man City fans will be OK as the club is hiring a minibus (joke stolen from elsewhere).

And yet when I and others suggested that if those in the rail industry didn't like it they should look for alternative employment as the rest of us would/do, we were told it would be impossible for rail workers to work elsewhere as their skills aren't transferable (even when pointed out that they likely were).
Was it pointed out that with a strong Union and the will to stand together there was no need to ‘look elsewhere’?

Aren’t you happy there’s been an agreement reached?

Perhaps you wished the Government had held strong and smashed them just like Maggie did?

Your collective capacity to blackmail the rest of the country isn't in dispute. What people are saying is that you shouldn't chose to do it just because you currently can. What you need to take on board is that the country will eventually get sufficiently pissed off with your union's behaviour that the law will be changed to curtail it.

Heard a rail worker phone in to a radio show today trying to justify the strike on cup final day. He was made to look a right muppet. Most people thought it was the last straw taking it out on kids wanting to see their club play at Wembley. Loss of any remaining public sympathy

Unfortunately, some rail staff seem to have an attitude of superiority and entitlement, despite only a small percentage of the UK public routinely using trains outside London and a few cities. Everyone else can safely just ignore their ongoing whingeing as it is unlikely to affect them.

90% of 70% of 20,000 people voted to continue strike action. So 13,000 people are causing all this disruption across the country?

fk them.

Good for them, our favourite walk is on what used to be a railway track, the sooner they are all converted in the same way the better...

90% vote with 70% turnout is pretty damning?

Its going to be interesting to see the results of todays election. I think there is a lot more sympathy for the strikers than is suggested on here. This election is a good chance to give the conservatives a kicking and it will be interesting to see if they learn anything from the results assuming they do get a kicking.

70% turnout seemed fairly poor to me, why not 95% ??

70% turnout is a VERY good result in union terms.

Yep, great turnout, but don’t let it stop others from making cheap digs…

It wasn't intended to be a cheap dig BUT the unions and many of the rail staff themselves have shown themselves to be generally solid in their views, and committed to achieving their aims.
Consequently - in the light of that background- the fact that only 7 in 10 even bothered to vote was, to me, quite a surprise.

Bear in mind that with the current laws on turnout in strike ballots, abstention can be more effective than voting no, so the missing 30% might have more “active” (ie people who would otherwise vote no) rather than “passive” (can’t be bothered to vote) abstentions
