I was helping a family member look for a car. They have found this locally.

Any help and advice on them please?

Well its an XJ 3.0 SE as the advert says . Its missing two items normally found on the SE and thats the Sat Nav and the Headlamp Washers .The Sat Nav wasnt all that good as its an early version and the Headlamp Washers at that age tend to be often inoperative so I wouldn't worry about either . The Cars MOT history points to many advisories regarding mainly Brake and Suspension items ( penultimate test ) though on its last MOT no reference is made to these . I would therefore be looking for the Bills to show that this work has been carried out . Its a well proven engine providing adequate power , the Bodywork is prone to slight corrosion in a few localised areas which again are nothing to worry about . The warning light being on is an automatic MOT failure , it may be just the ring with dirt on or it may not . What you need is a code reader in order to see what codes are being generated and then decide on your course of action .

I'd also add bushes and suspension to the check list, even if one corner needs looking at then that's as much to fix as what that car is worth.

Im interested why the vendor doesnt sort the issue and stick a fresh MOT on her ? This is why I mention all these advisories on the penultimate MOT . I suspect they probably havent been addressed , the warning light has come on and he is now attempting a swift exit .

You're just buying someone else's problems with that car. Just walk away and don't be tempted by the (apparently) cheap price.
