I don't think that is what this decision says. Is it not that each state can now make its own decision on abortion?
In other words, the government in Washington has no power over this aspect of law making.
One of the issues is that there was already legislation on some of the state books for abortion that was superseded by RvW. So the moment that is struck out, the existing law becomes valid. Example:In other words, the government in Washington has no power over this aspect of law making.
When I grew up in Ireland , a profoundly conservative place, divorce, birth control, abortion, homosexuality, any kind of sexual reference in books and so on were all banned.
As a kid in the sixties I saw the US as a magical place of endless roads, good times and personal freedom unlike where I was.
Now the position has completely reversed.
Living in Canada which has none of the US restrictions it looks as if there will be endless trouble. Profound reversal of womens’ rights.
The US constitution is a fine document. The problem is the literal interpretation. We see the same thing in the Bible and the Koran, both appropriate when written.
I do sort of get the decision at a technical level. What I do not get is the SCOTUS decisions that do not adjust for centuries of change. Thus the right to bear arms could theoretically include a small Nuke if you could put it on your hip .
Bottom line is that this will be very ugly and very bad for poor people. The rich can afford to go to a friendly state. By the court decision there can be no federal ban either,.

I'm guessing it's the sort of muddled thinking that only comes from religion
Absolutely true, Christopher Hitchens had it bang on. The point that occurs to me is that most of the pro life mob in the US are in the group who are pro firearms, what a f*caked up country it is and how we have sucked up to them over the years! BoRED S2upid said:
It’s getting to be a bit of a joke the US now. Biden has zero power. Helpless when it comes to gun control.
To be fair it’s the system they have rather than him. How the Supreme Court is set up and appointed to fairly ridiculous

You don't need to be religious to think that life I begins at conception rather then 24 weeks gestation.Edited by MiniMan64 on Friday 24th June 18:03
“We keep on being told that religion, whatever its imperfections, at least instills morality. On every side, there is conclusive evidence that the contrary is the case and that faith causes people to be more mean, more selfish, and perhaps above all, more stupid.”

The other point here is, what are the conservative right going to go after next? Gay marriage? Gay rights?
Funny you should say that....Clarence Thomas is an African-American associate justice to the Supreme Court...https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/24/thomas-co...

You know, as insane as it might seem, I can almost see a situation in the future where some US citizens from minority groups start arriving at airports in other countries and claiming asylum on the grounds of being persecuted and fearing for their life and rights.
