William is at a perfect age to take over now as he can relate to both younger and older people. Lets face it, how many 20-30 year olds can relate to Charles? I think William will be a great King and bring the monarchy in to the modern times.
100% this.

I just hope there is already a plan in place and Charlie boy is onboard with passing it along.

It is the only way this thing gets saved for some semblance of usefulness and credibility.

I've said before on threads regarding the monarchy that I'm a 'practical royalist'. If on balance, they are good for Britain, then keep them, if they are bad for Britain, get rid of them.
This was my position for a long while - i.e.the finanical / practical / tourism benefits kind of made it bearable. But I'm increasingly thinking that in a world of true equality, there can be no justification for a class based society / privilege that ends up with a royal family and so it has to go,

i.e. How can we claim to live in a truly equal world (be that an anti-racist world, an LGBTQIA+ inclusive world, or a class-less world) when we have even the concept of a King or Queen by birth? - we can't as it is massviely hypocritcal position....
I completely understand and respect that position. It is entirely logical.

I get it, but I'm prepared to overlook the fact that one family gets born into royalty, if the cash they help bring in, helps the rest of society in some way. If it creates jobs, boosts business, runs charities, and so on.

Getting rid of them won't help anyone else. It's not like we could sell off the palace to a Chinese billionaire and give the money to charity. Nor would we seize their 'personal' bank balances or personally owned land. If we asked them to step down, they would take the family silver, their money, and their land, and retire to some agreeable 1000 acre estate, or somewhere warm, and we would be left with a heap of dusty old buildings and some museums to maintain.

It would almost be trying to ensure everyone is equal, by simply knocking the very top few off their perch, and I'm not sure thats the right way to go about levelling up and enhancing equality.

That aside, there is only about 18 months in age between me and Prince William, and you couldn't pay me enough money in the world to swap places with him.

Charles (camilla) wont pass up being king (queen) , they have had the longest wait. He is unfortunately a dinosaur and fortunately will only reign for max 20 years.

By then The commonwealth will have all gone independent, scotland will have joined the eu, hadrians wall will be patched up with body parts of boris, NI will no longer be part of uk, and wales will join cornwall and ban all english from entering.

Stop the world - i want to get off.
