Something in The Telegraph today about a £5M Tory donor being given a knighthood I think. Anyone seen it?
Yes but honestly it's all a terrible misunderstanding.

He's done loads of philanthropic work the 5 million he gave them last year is just co-incidental.
So it costs £5m to get a Knighthood? The tories are sinking to new lows all the time. Is the difference between corruption in failed states/banana republics and us that we just do it better?

£5m for a Knighthood, £15m to say you want a black Labour MP shot in the face & a side of juicy NHS contracts. Lovely Jubbly.

Those comments about Abbot weren't racist at first remember.

Just "rude".

Another terrible misunderstanding.

Never mind that. The important thing is getting to the bottom of Ange's mortgage because we have to have integrity or something.

Mandelson didn't like it either, but got through ok, he had a passport to success.

It's the hypocrisy as much as anything, though if the Mandelsons at one end and the Rayners at the other are seen as escaping scrutiny, it can encourage others in politics to do wallpapering stuff and more besides, thinking they'll get away with it.

Oh you are still alive then.

Was starting to wonder as I haven't seen a defence of this stshow for a while.

I mean Vanden Saab pops up every now and then but I know you usually feel compelled to at least give it a go.

Partisan political activists and all that hehe

Mandelson? Why stop there? If you really want to dredge up decades old scandals, shouldn't we do Lloyd Georges' cash for honours? The Crichel down affair? The Lynskey tribunal? Letting the side down with your short terminism there, Turbot.

£5m?
Beckham will be pissed if he knew that’s all it would cost him all along smile

It does sound a reasonably cheap amount in todays money though. Obviously the 10% inflation years haven’t caught up yet!

I like Ange. Cannot abide Starmer. However. Given her long time clamouring for the tax records of some Tories, her unwillingness to share her own is, sadly, hypocritical. Gone down in my estimation. All she had to say was something like 'if I have made any mistakes with regards the electoral register or CGT it was unintentional and I am happy to retroactively make amends. This house sale was a long time ago and right now I'm a bit more concerned with creating a government in waiting to help the country out of the hole 13 years of Tory governance has brought'.

A statement like this would have ensured the couple of grand she may or may not owe rapidly disappeared from the publics mind, instead she has dug her heels in and helped make a story just at a time those loveable Tory scamps have been shooting themselves in both feet on a daily basis.

I think it’s just another example of Rishi being really st at politics. The optics of this are terrible.

Personally I don't see the issue with the donation.
All he has done is recognise that Rishi's Tory light Toryism is the kind of politics he - Mohamed Mansour likes and admires and wants to continue. It's quite natural that a governments policies affect its people. A government policy can affect it's people on a daily basis and Mr Mansour being as how he lives in the constituency of err Egypt knows this.
Also Mr Mansour, has served as a transport minister between 2006 to 2009. Admittedly this was in Egypt but the basic job will be the same
He will have experience of daily transport issues and probably recognises that the Conservative party is the best party to fix potholes.
I would have thought that folk on a motorists forum could recognise this and for once applaud Rishi in taking the money.

Here is a woman fixing a pothole

Here is the woman who fixed that pothole and will be going round the country fixing others too. She is called Esther McVey and is the minister for stuff that other ministers can't do

I am glad you raised that
Harold Wilsons honour for his Gamex raincoat buddy is still one of the greatest political scandals of the past few years.

Nah he's given up on this lot.

Just the odd token "but Labour" whimper of defence.

Which is pretty much the bat signal for how fked they really are.
