Completely given up on having Indian takeaway now given the enormous price increases (it's now just under £40).Now having Chinese on Friday nights which is a third of the price (£12). forgotten how nice it is !

I had an Indian takeaway last night for the 1st time in 6 months.

The price was pretty much the same but the portion size was about a third less and the meat content was definitely a lot less.

Fish and Chips for 2 people (one large fish, one standard), 2 peas, 1 curry. 40 quid, delivered via deliveroo.

It was a delicious treat but that's touching 75 quid for 4 people.

The hotel I usually stay on my birthday for 2 nights in London has gone from 285pn to 605pn, weekday rate, room only, non-suite.

I have decided to do something else.....

Isn't that just a location and Deliveroo tax though?

That's about £15 down the local chippy.

I never understand how people afford to use Deliveroo.

Typically a small percentage more per dish than if you went yourself.

Fish and chips is expensive now. What he has said would be over £50 near me assuming half decent chippy.

Hotels are taking the piss though; I’m at one now that starts at £500 per night. Where in London you may ask? Outskirts of Horsham actually. I’m sure it would have been £300 2 years back.

We stayed at Claridges just before Christmas and it was "only" £810 per night.

Not sure I'd pay £500 for a Horsham hotel eek

How much ?

Cod and chips (and it's a whopper of a fish) is £8.10 from my local chippie. Peas are £1.20 and I assume you mean curry sauce is also £1.20.

So yours would be £19.80 at my local one just up the road. We do, however, just wait in the queue which is often out of the door.

That’s crazy cheap. That’s on par with the prices the plaice I worked at charged approx 18 years ago in Surrey.

I lived in Horsham for 7 years, in the 90s. There were hardly any hotels at the time, and Sun Alliance were known for block booking them so it was even harder for our clients to get a room.

Horsham - what a bloody boring place it was !!

It’s just a decent price in a place that knows how to make fish and chips

And I bet they had stuff that was moist

Plaice ?!! biggrin

I'm a few miles outside Chester, and I know you are not doubting me, but this is their menu:

All the chippies round me are much the same prices.

Fifty quid yikes

A small fish here is £4 and a "small" chips (that can pretty much feed two people) is £2.10.

Curry sauce is a quid.

Went to asda today and grabbed the flavoured sparkling water, was 35 then 47, today 70p. I accidently said out loud "they're taking the piss" and bloke behind said he just said the same thing.

Sounds like it, £40 will get you Fish 'n' Chips for 4 around here. We always collect but even delivery would only be another fiver or so.

That’s the one I go, mostly use Deliveroo tbf but yeh it’s clearly the fish that’s the difference.

I know this will sound stalky so I apologise in advance but I was curious biggrin

On their website fish is £11 and chips are £3.50 which still seems a lot but I guess it's London so perhaps normal?

But on Deliveroo the fish is £14.45 and chips are £5.50.

I don't know if you get discounts from Deliveroo but that seems like quite the tax just to get stuff delivered.

No judgement it just really stuns me the difference in cost smile

You’re right on that outlet. Awful on deliveroo vs collection. Others are much more closely pegged.

The Fisherman in Settle. My in-laws are just a few miles from there as it happens, they live in Bentham. Having just asked Mrs Snuffy, that's what she says is the going rate around them there parts.

We often have just one fish between 2 of us. And our previous cat, Willow, would have the tail as well !
