Russian oil industry starts to defend against drone attacks.
I thought the whole point of the attacks was they weren't hitting the holding tanks, but the delicate/expensive/irreplaceable processing equipment, so happily that work looks like a total waste of time and resources smile

And the tanks aren't armoured so protecting against armour piercing rounds will make zero difference.

I suspect that's not a cope cage, it's just the normal structure of the tanks?

Yes that's the stuff they will find it very difficult to replace....the cumulative impact over time will be substantial I would think.

Just seen a short clip of UKR using a Yak 52 to knock down a Russian drone. Now that's a proper old school answer to the problem.
On phone so no idea if this link will work:

Blimey - I certainly wouldn't want to be airborne in a 52 anywhere there was the remotest chance of enemy SAMs or air coming after you - interesting that there were 2 on board as well, and other than an extra pair of eyes the one in the back doesn't really add anything so they must have been fairly confident there wasn't much risk of being engaged. Didn't seem to be any obvious weaponry hanging off the Yak, so did they just tt the drone with the wing? There are allegedly hard points under the wings, and I've seen photos of rocket pods attached, but those looked strictly air-to-ground.

That might well be the only reason for having someone sitting in the back! That being said, you'd want some way of containing the spent brass coming out of a hand-held weapon as the 52 is notorious for loose articles in the cockpit being able to cause control restrictions - hence the rather singular requirement to actually hit the aircraft as part of a pre-flight walk round - giving the underside of the rear fuselage a series of good hard slaps to hear if there's anything rattling around.

According to Denys - YES.

It's like WW1 in the air as well as the ground.

The video in this article Yak-52 Sport Aircraft Takes Down russian Orlan-10 Near Odesa purportedly has audio of gunfire from the 52, but it sounds to me to be coming from elsewhere, but in any case seems to be someone having at it with a semi-automatic weapon.

NATO forces considered using Super Tuc and others for Afghanistan when the cost of using fast jets and JDAM on a pickup truck seemed excessive...

Gun kill off a Yak might make sense in some cases.

Let's hope they enjoy their holiday, but get stuck there on Tuesday due to a bridge closure wink .

Russians looking to breakout of their bridgehead. The bridgehead is pretty small less than 1km at certain points. Suggests that the ukr have few spare units to counter this.

The new ammunition can't come soon enough to the front line.

Very tough planes the Yak 52. Mate used to have a half share in one. Was often used by a Russian aerobatic pilot who was a total nutter - superb pilot but made you wince to watch it thrown about.
