It was a brilliant decision by Sunak to promote Anderson to Dep Chair of the Tory Party.

If Liberals, Labour, SNP, Independents and Greens could have wished for anyone to take the role, it would have been him.
Yes because they haven’t got a clue about the real world..
And the Tories have? rofl
Of course they do.

In the Real World it's more important that we deport asylum seekers to Rwanda.

In the Real World it's more important that we stop the transgender agenda.

Forget about all that nonsense about the economy, food banks and the NHS. Not important at all in the Real World.

In essence, yes. But although they clearly are keen to blow dog whistles for their more knuckle-headed supporters, and you can accurately describe much of that as engaging in the "culture wars", they are even more keen to keep stirring up issues that divide the Opposition. For example, the status of transsexuals is hotly debated by different factions within the "progressive" parties, and indeed amongst the organisations that support various bits of the LGBTQ communities. Therefore the Tories keep banging on about the temporarily contested status of a single offender in a Scottish prison. It is damn all to do with the Westminster government, so there's no good reason to keep banging on about it except that it sows division amongst their opposition; divide and conquer. It's a spoiling tactic that does nothing but undermine sensible political debate in the country, but the Tories are cynical and desperate. Country before party, in a pig's arse.

Agreed. Lee Anderson is not perfect - no one is - but he's infinitely preferable to Nandy and her ilk.
That said, we'll find out in around two years when Sir Keir & Co. are in charge..........eek

Lisa Nandy is probably the best thing to come out of Wigan.
Better even than Uncle Joe's Mint Balls that my Aunty Edith was fond off.
I think that Mr Anderson is a political giant and one of the very best in a top tory team bristling with talent. I must also say that Lisa Nandy is probably one of the greatest Labour politicians of all time.
In a government of national unity I wouldn't hesitate to have her in a senior role.

Yep , it’s going to be a labour government !
What’s going to be interesting and scary at the same time is how they will go on without the usual cushion of money left by the Torys ? Usually it’s about mid point before they have got into economic trouble and somehow scrape along with the wheels hanging off until the next GE ..
How are we going to survive a whole term with the wheels hanging off the economy???

Don’t know if you’ve not noticed, but we’ve got zero growth, 10.5% inflation and the highest public debt we’ve ever had, which has soared since 2010 even before Covid.

Of course, it’s all Labour’s fault…

Umm where did I say that ?
I think the Torys have been dreadful for ordinary people over their recent time in office a trail of failed promises ., like I and many others have said the LAB Con FPTP system isn’t fit for purpose and we need political reform..

Remind me, who was in government in 1991 and 1980? What happened to the debt after Major? What Tory governments leave us with is huge levels of underinvestment that needs fixing. I remember in the 90s, after Major, schools and hospitals were falling apart. The state of buildings was a scandal. We are in the same place now.

You need only look at the long term economic growth to see that Labour vs Tory is BS and the economy on the long term grows regardless. Political meddling makes little difference and what business really needs to grow is stability, not high or low taxes, regulations or whatever. It just needs to know what the parameters are going to be in 5/10/15 years. Where the Tory government does damage is by failing to invest and doggedly sticking to the ideology that government investment is a waste.

What we need now is a government that is willing to invest huge amounts, either through borrowing or tax (more likely both) in good quality infrastructure, including intangible assets like education and a motivated workforce, not one that is ideologically opposed to spending.

That's as maybe, but I doubt the incoming Labour government will wish to, or be able to carry out those investments.

When I look at their ideas for more taxes, it's just not credible: for example abolishing non-dom status might, if said non-doms stay in the UK and co-operate, raise £3 billion. Pffft. Energy companies are already taxed at 75% and the large majority of their profits are earned outside of the UK. Corporation tax? Soon to be 25% so little room for an increase there............

That leaves borrowing, but that puts any government at the mercy of the bond markets. Perhaps the markets will say "We trust Starmer, Reeves & Co. to invest wisely", or perhaps they won't. I suspect the latter, especially if the government borrow money to placate public sector union pay demands. Still, I'm sure it'll all be fine if they let Lisa Nandy make the decisions. rofl

And these two posts are a good example of why politics in this country is an absolute shambles - people on different sides of a random argument just shouting names at each other.

We're screwed as a country if this is how we continue - neither party or the system that sustains them is fit for purpose

No need to be so rude to Ivan. I don't want to sound like a leftie wokist, but I think it's great that PH allows (even encourages) the Neuristically diverse to contribute to the forum. hehe
