Interview with Lineker where he explains his comments.

Gary Lineker: it was factually accurate to call refugee policy cruel
So called interview with his mate Alastair Campbell. Joke
Yeah, you'd never see any self-respecting Tories interviewed by their mates. They love a bit of meaningful scrutiny.
hehe

I don't think Men's Health has any legal requirements on impartiality.
GB News, on the other hand...
Likewise, it's not the BBC, and they can't manage either.

Grumps.

To be fair Alistair Campbell's commitment to refugees is second to none. He literally made up a lie to help start a war that created millions of Refugees. (And millions of corpses.)

We need to see any sexed up dossier AC has on Lineker. Or should that be sexed down...

To be fair, that isn't what the Chilcot inquiry concluded.

smile You're avinalarf AICMTP.

What did the sexed up dossier conclude, was it an accurate basis for war?

Also, why do some people ''want'' other people to make up their minds for them when in reality the other people's view is conveniently aligned with theirs. Oh.

MYOMU.

I still think Gary fell foul of Godwin's Law and so loses the argument. I don't disagree with his point about politicians trying to "other" illegal immigrants for political gain but him trying to "other" politicians as Nazis shows both a tin ear and poor debating skills (and some might say hypocrisy).

isn't there something about gb news being a tv channel rather than a news channel, or something i recall seeing?

Thanks. I can't figure out if that's better or worse. Also curious that you fixed my entirely flippant post and not the apparently serious one I was referring to.

Why is that good work? I presume that the Men’s Health magazine interview was just taken from the Rest is Politics podcast interview? If that’s the case then Rory and Alistair both made it clear that Gary Lineker was, in this capacity, effectively their gaffer, as the owner of Goalhanger Podcasts.

They went out of their way to make that clear, and the resulting interview I thought was reasonably interesting. Obviously never meant to be an interrogation. They’ve done loads of genuinely interesting interviews recently. Just off the top of my head; Bernie Sanders, Helen Clark, William Hague, Lineker, Michael Heseltine, they were all enjoyable and interesting interviews.

They don’t pretend to be an unbiased news outlet. It’s a podcast, but they both have a decent “inside” line on the current main parties and they do balance each other out to an extent, with the ex-Etonian and the labour die-hard “dynamic”.

You should give it a listen. It’s really good. I don’t think it’s been outside the top 2 most listened-to podcasts since it started. You might also learn something.

Okay. Fair enough. Give the podcast a listen if you haven’t already. You never know, you might grow to like AC!!
Enjoy the long weekend beer

Not sure what the argument is here. It's GL talking about the incident. It has more validity than Andrew Castle's claims of what he was told privately for instance.

I've heard Rory Stewart interviewed a couple of times and he comes across well as someone who has travelled and gone out of his way to get first hand experience and accounts of the issues that he's talking about so that he can speak with authority.

With that experience comes a nuanced approach and some empathy for those who generally get the stty end of the stick.

I suspect that it's this empathy and understanding that make him unpopular with those who prefer easy answers and their politicians to speak in 'send 'em back' style slogans

Agreed. The second part of the Rest is Politics podcast on the Iraq War is surprisingly the more interesting because of RS's insight.

In regards towards specifically Braverman he was not wrong.

Yeah, I think it’s valid to compare people to nazis when they say things that nazis say.
