My maths are fine if you get out of the employee mentality.

People on mid six figures are able to pay less proportion off tax than employees at low six figures.

Companies do it all the time, gross high and pay less tax, gross low and you can’t afford a creative accountant.

Yes employee mentality you have no chance but the more money you make the more likely you are able to explore some form of a
creative accounting.

My neighbour sold his business for almost £100M in the end of the 90’s, still has hands in many pays and pays less tax than me. I think it’s great and no problem with that but he uses complicated off shore accounts, etc to do it. Also his house (estate) is now owned by his company, no doubt in preparation for inheritance tax evasion. I don’t know but what I know is that people with a lot more money pay less tax than people on low or average money. He certainly does not hand half of his income to the tax man!

Just using him as an example as I know a bit about it.

But yes you are just looking at the “wages” that’s cool. Also tax does not mean income tax only… I am not even remotely close to any of this but I can see that they don want people to earn more than 150-200k over 500k you have money to get better advice and effectively make your money go further by minimising your tax liability.

Nothing odd there. Always someone super rich telling the proles to tighten their belts.

Bet our lot didn't work a full day only to come home to a freezing flat and just sit and watch telly in winter walking clothes, gloves and hat.

s! the lot of 'em.

Although the argument over there is about a very generous pension that's just no longer affordable, you have to admire the fact that they hit the streets to show their displeasure.

Stuff has happened here in the past 3 years which should have had us on the streets, but we just write to forums, MPs and sign petitions. Gets us nowhere.

We seem to be a cowed populace these days frown
Not at all, we're British.

Crazy move from him he actually drew attention to it by taking it off...difficult to see what the watch was from that angle but this white gold blue dial and strap Aquanaut would fit the bill @ £40k

TBF I would expect him to wear such a watch and he needs to just own it, what he did was pathetic.
Friend in France says it's not a Patek but the same one he had on when he tried to chummy up to Mbappe. A Bell and Ross or something. A good bit cheaper anyway fwiw

My daughter lives there, quite central (Madeleine). She says the bins have been cleared yesterday and life is pretty normal in between protests biglaugh. She walks to work though now as Metro a bit touch and go.

Where are you planning to stay ? Can you walk there from Gare Du Nord (if that's where you land).?

Sure just reacting to the other post but he's allowed to wear whatever watch he wants really it's just so strange that he would do what he did.

There’s talk of shelving the planned increase in UK from 67 to 68 due to falling life expectancy.
Down the pub, perhaps. But there is no such talk by anyone who can actually influence it. It will be 68.

True and applicable to many situations in life; for example:

a) Folks who demand new house-building by the Government to help local first time buyers, to give priority to local families priced out of the market, provide more housing options etc

b) The same folks above who kick off when the new houses are planned near their own locality.

We need this stuff, as long as it's not in my back yard and I don't have to look at it!!

It's brilliant and it might get Macron the sack. Its all over the media, 90-100k euro White Gold Patek watch Macron was wearing I believe.

The English translation of the conversation is that he was talking about sacrifices that the French people need to make.

This. We need our own revolution. The average Joe has been shafted for the last 20 years..
Ridiculous comment. Average Joe has been busy PCPing cars he can’t afford to impress his neighbours, hasn’t saved or invested a penny and has bought everything on tick in a time of historically low interest rates because he thought they would last forever and now bleats because the state isn’t going to bale him out because they’ve gone up.

Funny you typed that...

Had a conversation with a new neighbour today who moved in last week.

His opening line was "is that your car?".
Was looking at my Audi estate, 12 years old but in OK condition.

I said yes.

Bear in mind this was the first time we met, he then asked me to come and look at his car (A7) and his wife's car (Evoque).

Both brand-new, lovely things and I made the usual appreciative noises after nosing round.

After that, this dick I've only known for 10mins asked why my me & my wife don't get new cars too.

Said I couldn't afford it, & he told me his A7 was £680/month and his wife's RR £750/month.

Mental - almost £1,500/month on renting cars and they think that is standard!

My wife & I have an S6, Elise S2, Porsche 996 & a Yaris - all over 10 years old but well-kept and paid for in full - probably for less than they pay in rent over 24 months

Each to their own

You need to look (and possibly think) about that a little more. Neither is correct.
By the time you add in NI, Income Tax, Council Tax, VAT, insurance tax, fuel duty, alcohol duty and all the other nefarious ways the fkers have of stealing my money, I'm paying well over 50% of my income to them!
