I lived in Paris- that's a very accurate description of many Parisians.

Someone clever said something I thought was very good along the lines of:

The reason the British and the French don't get along is that neither of them are completely sure they shouldn't be living like the other.

Certainly a cleaner city than London, outside of strikes of course.

Me too in the first part of my reply. In fact, the level of sophistication and elegance of people in Paris is quite high.

I shot this from the Uber on the way up to Gare du Nord.

I worked in London for many years, I don't think there is much to choose between them. The Metro is dirty, so is the Underground. The river looks bleak in both cities.

London has nice places and scruffy spots, so does Paris. I lived near Zurich for three years, like night and day.

I know the 17th very well, in fact I was there last week, walked along Batignolles.

As for le Bois, I was a member at the Racing Club. Lovely there. Even in the evening.

I had to telephone EDF today, the lady seemed irritated, awkward and unhelpful. Mrs PR pointed out that instead of answering the phone to le rosbif, she'd rather be setting light to some pneus at a road block.

Probably had a point ( Mrs PR that is not Madam EDF)

Crikey Garg, that’s a bit harsh - putting poor old Zurich in the same sentence as Paris and London!! Can you imagine the Zuri response to a neighbour who had left their rubbish in the road outside??? Grandad would have shot em and the jury would have supported him!

The parents of a friend of mine have a place in Normandy. They and the locals get along very well - the attitude of the locals is that if a Brit buys a holiday home there, it stops a Parisian doing the same.

Well, I looked on the BBC news main page and the Europe section, and there wasn't anything. Generally, if I already have to know about the news article so I can search for it, it kind of defeats the point...
