Everyone been inundated by alerts due to this hot weather? A number here were saying we would be - have I missed out?

Perhaps it’s because I’m in Quebec at the moment. I did get an alert the other day saying that a 1 year old had been abducted locally. Gave the name of the child and the abductor and details of their car. Seemed like quite a good idea to put people on the look-out. Perhaps those right-wing libertarians who tremble at the very idea of ‘society’ would rather not know about these things?
On the sauce ?
Not yet - a bit early here. Why?
I guess it’s the time difference. All to do with the earth and is orbits.

No, but you're right. Several posters on here were absolutely adamant that this scheme was some kind of social conditioning exercise relating to climate change, and the 'powers that be' wouldn't be able to help themselves when there was next some hot weather.

As far as the new type Mystic Met alerts this summer, we've had nothing as extreme or extensive since the 1975-1976 heatwaves, when some PHers wouldn't be born, with decreasing extreme weather. Up to 2021 UKMO data shows that weather is not becoming more extreme in terms of heatwaves, rainfall or droughts. The only significant (and still slight) increase is in precipitation as noted for Scotland, not extreme at all. Globally, deaths per year due to climate/weather related causes plummeted between 1900 and 2010, despite higher population densities and more homes / workplaces / infrastructure in coastal and flood prone areas as well as better reporting; see Goklany "Deaths and Death Rates from Extreme Weather Events 1900-2010" in JoAPS 14 (4) 102-109.
Not sure where you're getting your data from, but it's widely accepted that weather/climate is becoming more extreme.

Anyway, nothing to do with emergency alerts so sorry for straying off topic.

What hot weather?

Was around 28/29 degrees in London today, probably warmer than the June average but not of any particular note.

Does pointing out that’s how not why end this little diversion?

Well it was being claimed that “the emergency alert system will be used by Mystic Met this summer to warn us of summery weather.”

Oh Christ, now you've done it. If you weren't aware, TB is our leading resident climate change sceptic and isn't shy about bringing into only tangentially related topics. Expect a long list of links and graphs inbound any time soon.

In lieu of a weather and pedophile warning messages - I checked online. No pedos today. But it will rain heavily later. Thank goodness I checked as my lounger cushion would have been soaked through.

No alerts since the test.
Personally I think the system should be being used more.
It's hot and there should be some alerts saying drink lots of water.
Then there should be alerts saying be careful of swimming in water
You can never have too many alerts and if just one person is saved its worth it.
Yes, quite. Stay indoors as well...its just too dangerous out there.

Thank goodness I ignored the weather alert. It didn’t rain here - so my Sunday drive wasn’t ruined after all. Can’t have enough warning messages. Could have been a pedo next door.

Why wasn't there an alarm?

Not serious enough?

Too serious?

Do we need a test of the threshold for an alarm? rolleyes (This might be it, and I'm sure "lessons will be learnt" )

Apparently it happened in the early hours of the morning, so if you used the alert you'd be waking most people up to tell them to stay away...

I thought it had been tested, and was now live?

Send it at 730am then, warning them to "stay away from the area". Although would probably have drawn more people in...which was one of the criticisms whistle

OT, it seems to have took an age for the news to have got hold of the story?

It was all over by then, so what's the point if alerting people? No risk to life, suspect detained etc.
