I would've posted this under the MG section but that appears to be slow moving and about classic MG's and this is a question on the new Chinese built MG.

My daughter is thinking about buying a ZS 1.0 manual or auto. It seems a whole lot of car for the money and there are a lot of MG's on the road these days. Has anyone got any ownership experience of them, is this a bad idea?

Can't help wondering if she could be buying a whole lot of trouble even though I appreciate no car is without faults.

thanks

I would read through the posts on the Facebook owners group and make your own decision based on that.

I have seen some underbody videos on YouTube and the amount of underbody corrosion is quite surprising on year old cars.

No major feedback.

We've had a ZS EV Trophy for a year, covered 6200 miles and its been faultless.

Everything works as it should and the wife is very happy with it.

Suzuki Vitara at this price point, I’d say.

I'm in a motability group and there are lots of reports about these new MGs with very low quality control and lots of bugs and glitches in the infotainment systems.

They are also meant to be very thirsty as well.

I wouldnt buy one myself

How thirsty can a 1.0 3 cylinder engine really be?

I think the 1.5 engine is pretty old school and neither very powerful or very good on fuel.

Depends how hard it has to work ie how much weight it has to pull.

small turbocharged petrol engine pulling nearly two tonnes of brick shaped object?

Basically its working flat out to move the thing so low 30's realistically.

You and I have very different definitions of a car being thirsty hehe

I cant see low 30's from the 1.0, the old tech 1.5 is reportedly low 40's on honestjohn. Driven sensibly on a mixed cycle I'd expect to get 40-45mpg from the manual.

The 1.0 auto is seemingly mid 30's so again expect better from a manual, at least driven sensibly.

Brochure quotes 42.7 but take that with a pinch of salt!

Shocking cars. We have a low mileage 2018 on 25k and the problems it has are akin to a car from 1980. Can't wait to get rid once we move house and can feasibly share a car for a bit.

I had no say in the purchase decision.

Ouch, I briefly had a sheddy Rover 25. Surprisingly comfortable little thing but only did low 30s on its 1.1 petrol engine. I'd have hoped economy in a similar sized car would have come on a bit more in a quarter of a century.

It’s cheap, so set your expectations accordingly. But it’s new (shiny) and comes with a reasonable warranty I believe?

See loads of them on the roads these days; can’t all be bad? Location of the dealership would probably influence me, and how helpful and competent they appear to be.
