Apologies for the clunky thread title.

I confess to being a little surprised a thread on this subject wasn’t already running wild!

Many may have noticed recent fire attacks on men around mosques. I’d feared these were going to turn out to be “right wing” affairs but the police have now named the individual charged with attempted murder(s) (Mohammed Abbkr) and the case is clearly not as I had anticipated.

Can anyone shed any light? Mental health? Factionalism?

It's horrific, in this country in this day and age. Maybe the accused was of a different flavour of religion (Sunny/Shia?) to the victims, much like the inter-Christianity prot/cath violence in NI?

Or mentally not all there / had a grudge.

I am also glad this is not far right terrorism related.

If religion is involved then pretty much the same thing.

Such motivation for serious offenses isn't new: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-wes...

I did wonder if this could be Sunni vs Shia, after all it happens all over the world, why would the UK be any different.

Years ago I had a conversation with my Barber who was from Iraq, I asked him what the difference was between Sunni / Shia.' HIs response was one is right hand drive, the other left hand drive!

That's polite, to say the least. The fundamental schism is all over who succeeded Mo. Just like every other religion, they can't even agree on the fundamentals yet will tell you they have the inside track on how the universe works.

It's useful to have enough knowledge about evangelical religions that you can make its evangelists look silly. Funnily enough I've never had to draw on my knowledge of Hinduism, Judaism or Sikhism. But for Christians my go-to is to pick something, anything from Leviticus. I especially like the instructions of what to do if you find some mould in your house - instead of bleach spray you need to get a Rabbi to move in for a bit and do some DIY for you.

The disappointment when the suspects name was released must have been huge.

Maybe the Tommy Robinson fanclub are too busy dissecting his recent antics in Ireland to focus on this attack

I think you're misunderstanding who "the usual suspects" being referred to are...

Go on, educate us on who you were referring to then.
