Some guys do look a bit too pleased with themselves in the changing rooms. Michael McIntyre summarises the situation nicely,

It seems clear to me why they have brought in this policy, they dont want young girls/women seeing a penis in the changing rooms, seems entirely fair and reasonable
Or it's anti trans hysteria leading to new puritanism, which is what everyone said would happen.

Women won't see anything, as they won't be in the men's changing room to start with. Young girls will be 7 or under, with their dads, and couldn't care less.

It's disturbing how many people seem to see nudity only as Step 1 in "How to have sex".

My son (24 yrold) and his mates can’t understand communal showers and won’t take their pants off, and they are really freaked out when I explain about the communal baths we used to have after footie smile

I don't think that surf lifesaving club has a communal change room.

But if you want to broach that subject: https://reduxx.info/women-file-lawsuit-against-uni...

Yep, nu puritanism....

It is inevitable people will be naked in changing rooms, the clue is in the name.

However, a little bit of modesty doesnt go amiss, I go to the gym and there are some men who just wander round starkers, its not really that much of an imposition to put a towel round you is it ?

Doesn't bother me but the gym has swimming classes for kids and there are always parents with their children in there, and fair enough its a mens changing room but personally, I wouldnt want to be seen as someone who wanders round with no clothes on in front of kids. The kids never seem bothered, they dont notice I expect, usually too busy crying, charging about and generally being kids but these days I think its naive for these men to walk round like that, one comment or parent objecting and it could get very unpleasant for them.

Its always the older men, younger chaps dont seem do it. Saw one older gent once with his leg on the counter top drying his undercarriage with a hairdryer, I mean WTF !

Had seen that in a cartoon, it is bang on,

I think this cartoon is doing exactly the opposite of what you think it is hehe

This is spot on in my experience.

I reckon the age cutoff is somewhere around 40. I don't know if it's something everyone goes through and inhibitions naturally dissipate as we get older, or whether something about being born after ~ 1980 means we are all a lot more self conscious than our forebears.

I am 35, and I am still utterly loath to fully de-kit in the changing room. Towel very much in place while changing from swimmers into underwear and vice versa for me. Also swimmers must be shorts type, speedos can FRO.

35 here, and communal nudity is absolutely grim. Ugh.

ETA: I'm 36. Always getting that wrong.

I read an article in the newspaper this morning about a surfing club in Australia that has banned nudity in their changing rooms. Apparently surfers have to shower in their costumes and then change using a towel. To be clear, this is in single sex changing rooms, not mixed changing rooms.

Apparently to “protect the children”. Personally I would think it as a good way of giving some children a completely messed up relationship with their own bodies.

I was a bit surprised as even in the UK growing up in the 70s we had to shower naked after sport. Is this of nonsense spreading to the U.K. too?

Having lived in countries where mixed naked saunas are not unusual it does seem a bit baffling.
You said you had to shower naked? Old Mr peado the PE teacher?

Don’t see a problem with this nobody wants to see your meat flapping around while they are trying to get changed.

I’d say in our swimming club it’s 50/50 balls out or swimmers on and towel.

We get this in my gym too sometimes. Young lads going into the shower in their kex. Baffling.

It's a shower. No one is in there leering, beating one off, getting out rulers or anything else untoward or if they are I haven't noticed. I will go in with a towel around me, then remove it and shower.

It will be a very sad day indeed if we decide nudity is so taboo that showering normally is deemed offensive.

Going to secondary school in the mid 60s it was a big culture shock to find that we had compulsory communal showers after games and PE, even more so when one of the teachers came in with us. Healthy in a way though, as I've never minded being naked in a sauna or steam room as an adult.

Two kids watch a pot-bellied man undress in a changing room,

One of them say "What is in your tummy that makes it so round?" To have some fun the pot-bellied man says, "A bomb". Dumbfounded the second child says, "What a short fuse!"

Haven't been swimming with a good while I remember the new swimming baths I attended in the 90's had mixed changing rooms. Very different to the ones I went to which had mens and women's and lots of cubicles and people dropped their drawers with a towel around them. Morning session which was mostly attended by mature women who had no issues strutting around with everything out.

Then I remember being on the Continent as a kid, can't remember if it was France or Spain at a waterpark but it had mixed changing. Men and women standing completely naked having conversations in the showers but then I think nudity is a lot more accepted there.

When I competed at the swimming masters Europeans held in London maybe 2016? It was pretty funny to see how the Europeans just let it all out in the mixed changing rooms. It's got cubicles and single sex group change but the showers are mixed and yep... Wangs, bushes, boobs abound!
