I see this is no longer in the news given the developments in Gaza.

Has the farmer or anyone else been charged yet? Any news on this?

It's been cut up and taken away this by the NT. No update on the miscreants.

BBC went truly mad on this today. Some hack stood in the near vicinity telling us in her solemn voice that the tree "would make its final journey" after being carefully chopped up. I st you not. Sadly she didn't tell us how many journeys this fking tree has made in its long life. She even said it is not being disclosed where the tree is going (maybe it should lie in state in Westminster Abbey for a year) or what will happen to it thereafter.

I was embarrassed for her.

I hope later we will see people lining the track, crying or clapping (their choice) and hurling flowers at the truck, princess Diana stylee, as it slowly makes this "final journey" and then a candle lit vigil with full placards and a hash tag saying #istandwiththetree or similar.

Hurling sticks and small logs at the cortege, shirley? And mind them candles, you'll have Saint Sycamore of Northumbria up in flames.

I think it's disgusting that they haven't announced a bank holiday for it.

this was on PlanetRock news hourly, yesterday.

However the news story was "The sycamore gap is being removed from Hadrian's Wall today..." rather than "the sycamore tree is being removed from sycamore gap at Hadrian's Wall..."

Seemed an odd way of phrasing it.

Wasn't it resting on the wall itself?

Quite.

That was the other thing - on the original reports it was 'near' Hadrian's Wall. Can't get much closer!

Anyone know if the little tree the left survived. Looks about where the Sycamore landed.

Have they said why they did it?

It seems the farmer was protesting his innocence but i wonder if he is linked in some way.

Why do you think he is linked?

No word as yet. I just did a quick search and found a local with the right skills, it would be an unfortunate coincidence if it was someone else with the same name. It won't be long before the DM tracks both of them down and tells us their house price.

I am going house worth £150k in the middle of no where, caravan in the drive, Land Rover 90 (broken down, one or more wheels missing) and a nice Sofa outside the front window.
