Weisselberg's handwritten notes on the doubling up of the $130k payment to Daniels will help to sink trump on this case.

Trump's Defence counsel: Trump is cheap. This must have been for something else.

Glenn Kirschner points out that each of trump's ten counts of criminal contempt lays him open to either a $1000 fine or up to 30 days in prison. Says imprisonment would be relatively easy as there are already special sections of prisons in existence for 'protected' inmates, or closed-down wings that could be re-opened. Three options he identifies here: his Secret Service protection officers could sit outside the cell, or trump could lose his protection as a result of conviction, or the SS could enter into an agreement with the appropriate prisons and marshals services to make it work. Kirschner thinks trump probably wants to get jailed for the money-raising potential.

Easy then. 300 days. No access to the internet.

Hopefully long enough for the world to forget about him.

No gold framed mirrors, no tiger skin rugs, no pretty women around him with fake lips, and no golf.

Will never happen though. And it would all play into his "poor me, waaa waaa waaaaaa" narrative

If Trump were to go to prison, and the Secret Service would be required to protect him, who's going to volunteer for that detail? I suppose some of the SS might be Trump supporters, but you'd have to be a real fan to want to stand outside a cell for hours at a time.

Suppose it's a case of only following orders.

It's not a case of being a fan. Its a job.

Actually it would be the perfect role for giving training hours to new officers as the risk would be so low?

I'd love to see that but it would be playing directly into his victimhood complexes hands.

He wants to be locked up so he can claim it's all political and they're trying to stop him because they fear him.

I believe the Secret Service has already made plans if Trump is imprisoned. He's probably the one former president who really needs protection, not just from his enemies but his fans are quite unhinged as well (probably a bigger risk than his enemies).

As for it being a boring task... Secret Service agents are still government employees and there's nothing a government employee likes more than to be paid to stand around and do nothing hehe

My money is on them giving immunity to “presidential acts”

And letting everyone else argue what is a presidential act and what’s a personal act.
I think you could well be right on this.

Trump wouldn't be in a cell like Joe Public. It would be more like a combination of Harry Grout and some Central American drug lord - probably a replica of Mar-a-lago.

I fear you may well be right. Kicking the can down the road is like amputating a big toe, when gangrene has already reached the ankle, however. Serves no useful purpose.

The Rest is Politics podcast is starting a third weekly episode on the US, hosted by "The Mooch" Scaramucci and Kattie Kay of the BBC. First episode is out tomorrow Friday 26th.
Just listened to the first one. Well worth a listen and subscribing to. They both give a lot of context to the dynamics of what's going on and the American psyche. Mooch's insight on the NY judicial structure is interesting. He doesn't think this particular trial will be the killer for Trump if it goes against him but he does suspect it may start a domino effect.

They also have some interesting thoughts on the Arab (heritage/sympathy) vote and turnout implications for Biden in particular. They see Michigan as the absolute critical bell-weather swing state for how the election will turn out (assuming Trump hasn't fallen over by then).

Well they've indicated that any trial pf trumps election interference case is unlikely to take place anytime soon, as they try to fudge whats an official act and whats not, how to excuse trump but not give anyone else any immunity.

In fact the prospect of trump going to trial was described by Alito
"That may involve great expense, and it may take up a lot of time. And during the trial, the former president may be unable to engage in other activities that the former president would want to engage in and then the outcome is dependent on the jury, the instructions to the jury, and how the jury returns a verdict and then it has to be taken up on appeal."

So they'll delay and delay and fudge to allow trump to run

trumps own lawyer at his impeachment told the Senators to vote not to convict him because he could be prosecuted if it came to that. Now they're arguing that the only way he could be prosecuted is if they convicted.

Interesting comment
"Hi, the Supreme Court isn’t an actual court. It’s six paid operatives pretending to consider arguments while overturning laws for money.

Hope that helps clear up what happened today."

So no legal considerations involved.
The shocking reality!

A court should not be considering how imprisonment may be exploited. They are there to enforce the law only.
