I don't understand.

Surely this was the only outcome of breaking the coalition up?

What did he expect?

Whilst I’m glad Yousaf has gone, unless Forbes stands and wins, the SNP will choose a continuity candidate to appease the Greens, which means more batst crazy policies until the next Scottish election.

This.

We're in for Groundhog Day I suspect.

A reset of the Holyrood seating plan is IMHO the only thing that is going to avoid us going round the houses and ending up at essentially the same outcome as the last leadership contest.

It won’t now he has gone. The Greens absolutely don’t want an election.

Fantastic news. Rishi next would be lovely. No chance that'll happen any time soon though.

What a bunch of twaddle his speech was. It's got nothing to do with race - it's everything to do with competence.

Still, race is yet another squirrel, of course.

I disagree. Peewee and Big Bird are out of their Ministerial Salaries with no chance of re-instatement. Before this kicked off PeeWee was showing a bit of leg to Labour.

If anything the Greens Marxists would want an election and as quickly as possible while this debacle is fresh in their supporters minds. Easy campaign slogan for them to say don't split the vote between SNP and us because they'll just shaft us again. Under Holyrood's weird system they could actually make gains at the expense of the SNats.

I don't really understand why he hasn't called an election and stayed as FM until the result

He doesn't get to make that decision.

It did appear to be like watching someone putting themselves into check mate.

Come on folks - this was never about what he wanted to do!!!

The scrapping of the (joke) emissions targets was the starting gun, and then Humza just ran the race exactly how others anticipated.

Good point, but I suppose my thinking was that they are still in the position of essentially being able to dictate to the SNP for the next two years, whereas who knows what would happen if an election was called tomorrow. I would hope that Scottish Labour would have enough sense to avoid getting involved with the Greens, but then they did vote for a number of their most contentious policies so who knows.

I was part of a Labour/Tory coalition for five years at council level, and we drew up an agreement at the start of the term that incorporated some of our policies (and most of theirs!); our group had three councillors and Labour had nine and the agreement reflected that. I always thought that we could have achieved much more if we had stayed out of a formal agreement and taken each policy/budget on its own merit.

yup - unless new SNP leader gives them back the roles, which is 99% unlikely , given what just happened, whats in it for the greens to back the SNP - nothing - so why not go for an election and if labour or tory's or indeed an SNP party with new leadership and with a new begging bowl out to anyone to form a government, the greens position is a stronger one on all fronts ....?

Well that's him gone - off for a couple of weeks holiday in a motorhome perhaps?
Who's next, the bloke who ran Fergusons Yard until he got sacked last week?

A bit like Westminster, I really can't say I'd vote any of them in, either to the SNP or in fact to the Scottish parliament. Don't rate any of the current parties, all their leaders are weak. (Could say the same about Westminster).

Why not scrap the Scottish Parliament and repurpose the building for the homeless, select a special wing to use for drug abuse rehab, Scotland having one of the highest drug related problems in Europe. Save us a hell of a lot of MSP wages.
