tbh - if i was him, i'd not resign and call an election instead - as it seems to me he's been utterly shafted by his own party advisors, then why not go out all guns blazing - it would certainly wake up all the SNP and greens into suddenly realising the money gravy train could be about to end for everyone, and they cannot not back him in an election without fear of utter devastation....

The SNP gave no funds for an election, either Westminster or Holyrood.Given we’re likely to see a Westminster election in the not too distant future, another campaign will almost certainly bankrupt the SNP, which would be a shame
Quote on the BBC referring to Useless trying to get on the front foot then promptly shooting himself in it made me laugh.
I agree that Forbes would be the best bet of a bad bunch in general terms for the SNP in relation to perhaps having a couple of years of being better at governing and trying to make things a little less Scottishy for the sake of it. No doubt that’s why it won’t happen.

Rishi on Sunday suggested a July election.
Humza might play for that.

Forbes gives off a more serious countenance, but she's still indicative of the complete lack of experience, talent and ability the SNP have. Her time as Finance Secretary was just a continuation of the existing smoke and mirrors of splurge now extract the cost from future budgets.I agree that Forbes would be the best bet of a bad bunch in general terms for the SNP in relation to perhaps having a couple of years of being better at governing and trying to make things a little less Scottishy for the sake of it. Just as an aside, and maybe jumping the gun a bit, but I don't think thr PO has a casting vote in appointing a new FM. So the SNP will be 2 votes short of a majority, which could be significant.
PO can vote however they want, but to avoid collapsing the parliament and becoming an affront to modern democracy should always vote to maintain the status quo, so the status quo would be no FM appointed.I see Wings gave four scenarios and then picked the wrong one of the four.
The problem I see now is whether the
They might decide not to risk that and vote the government down.
Again it comes down to what Salmond said - who is the most scared of an election and I think that is the SNP. The

Much as I would love to see a snap election where the Scumbag Nats would get rinsed, and one that they definitely cannot afford to campaign for, I think it doesn't lie within the First Minister's competence to call an election. It can only be voted for by a 2/3rds majority of MSPs. The only way to achieve an election in the near term is for the SNP to lose one or preferably both VONC, and Holyrood be unable to elect another FM.
The following have been rumored as FM -
John 'under the bus' Swinney - old guard Sturgeonite. Expect more incompetence.
Neil 'whooooo?' Gray - lurking back bencher & salary hooverer. The John Major option.
Jenny 'thick as a brick' Gilruth - ultra woke Sturgeonite. Will probably get back into bed with the loony Greens.
Shona 'hilariously incompetent' Robison - the unthinking cretin's cretin. Amazed she's able to make a pot of tea without burning her house down.
Stephen 'not an MSP' Flynn - almost a Tory compared to the rest. Maybe a candidate in 2026 if he can find a safe seat in Holyrood.
Mhairi 'loves KitKats' Black - student activist and hyper woke radical. Not a unifying force, to put it mildly.
Kate 'wee free' Forbes - sensible, credible, competent. No idea why she's in the SNP. Not woke, despised by the Greens.
For the complete destruction of the SNP and alienating of their core vote, it has to be Gilruth. Imagine nearly two years of that imbecile running the show. The collateral damage to the country would be incredible - take Sturgeon's radical policies, add a few of Humza's hate bills, then insert a radical hyper woke cretin to push them on. Disastrous.
For a couple of years competent governance, and any chance of reversing the insanity of the last decade, Forbes would be a good choice. There's a very real risk that she might make the SNP look competent and credible by association, however, come the 2026 election.
Who knows when the next Scottish election will be but I can still see the SNP being the largest party, especially if they have Kate Forbes as FM. I don't want this to happen but I think its possible.
I don't think they will have a majority and will need to rely on Labour and the Lib Dems to get anything voted through. They will never work with the Tories as it would destroy their previous narrative that all Tories are evil............
Tories will return far fewer MSP's at the next election and will be probably be the 4th largest party.
