You don't get it do you? Did you bother to look at the photos of the river where the police are having to risk their lives to search for a kid who should never been taken anywhere near it in the first place!? By the looks of it, an adult should be seriously considering giving it best and going home too.
I've seen some photos of where the police are searching, but not of where the incident happened. Has the exact location been released?

Absolutely tragic - far too soon to speculate on what happened. The fathers life will never be the same after this. And I'm someone who believes accidents can happen.

I suppose I'll have to dig out a bunch of RAMS templates if my kids produce grandparents & ask me to look after them for the day....

Jesus wept: a kid just died. I'm pretty sure he wasn't involved in some tiktok style 'dare'. Perhaps the parents weren't the sharpest tools in the box, & perhaps they indeed did take the child out in unsuitable circumstances (???) Can anyone here even imagine the feelings of grief they are going through?

Is that particularly relevant?

Yes, I'm afraid it does. There is an awful lot of this "people doing backflips to excuse downright stupidity" stuff going on nowadays. Tell you what, next time I'm babysitting my grandkids I'll just leave them in front of the telly and nip out for a pint or two shall I? What could possibly go wrong?
I get what you're saying and the same thought crossed my mind wrt a 2yr old... But ultimately a kid's dead, and I cannot imagine what the parents are going through.

I like to think I'm ultra careful with mine, but even then they've been through some scrapes that could have resulted in worse than they did...it's one of those "but for the grace of God" things that has made me try and curb being overly judgemental (at least until all facts are known).

There's a section of the Thames not far from me, and during high tide, it comes up onto the promenade. I can imagine a kid having a splish splash in 2cm of water with the parents watching on, not realising that 2ft away is a 10ft drop that's hidden by the water. A child would probably float but there's still a risk of drowning and being drawn away by the current. And no signs that I noticed.

Yes, it's highly relevant, because you are drawing conclusions about the safety of the banks where the kid went in (and hence the culpability of the parents and the quality of their judgement) based on photos of somewhere else entirely.

So many things could have caused it - my son used to run ahead all the time when he was approaching 3, an over excited dog could have pushed him in, the dad took an eye off him for half a moment because they bumped into friends. It's ended tragically but also nice to know that not everyone sits their kids infront of an iPad or TV and actually gets out into nature.

Yes, and that's what makes me so fking furious about it. It wasn't the kids fault, it was only 2 ffs. The person that should have been holding his hand, pushing his buggy, hell, even thinking it's a bit iffy down there best leave it...that person let the poor blighter down, and yeah, hurrah, he jumped in...should never have got to that point with a supposedly grown-up man present. Anyone with half a brain knows not to mess with rivers in flood. Too much of this crap happening these days, that and nutters murdering their children. Makes me spit

Very, very sad….
Not sure about your point with the reference to “nutters murdering their children” with regard to this, you have made your point, best maybe to leave it there.

It could be, we don't know. But we are not jumping to conclusions, without any evidence, unlike some.

Not much point in pointing out to you that the photograph could have been taken several miles downstream from where the incident happened. As you already Know where it was and what happened.

FWIW my (10 years younger) sister escaped her reins by unfastening the buckle in the middle of her back and went on to make a bit of a party piece of the skill. She did it the first time when she was in my charge while walking along a busy road while on holiday.

Earnt me a hiding from my Dad at the time.

Moral of the story being we don’t have a scooby what happened in this tragedy beyond the barest of facts.

There but for the grace of God and all that.

Edited due to autocorrect buffering things up - despite being turned off. Bit odd.

I was running the comms for the operational response to unprecedented floods in a city on our ground.

I took a 999 call sent from a call-taker from the parent of a 3-year-old who'd gone missing in a flooded area. The height of the water was over ankle boots. We obviously put all available officers on the call, taking them from not quite so urgent calls. The child was found after some minutes. As the officers at the scene said, it was impossible to say where the land ended and the river began.

The incident was reported to child welfare and the call recording was asked for. I assume there was a case on the matter.

Who is "virtue signalling"? All I am doing is pointing out that despite your assertions you know no more about what actually happened than the rest of us.
