That way lies anarchy.

We either abide by the accepted definition, perhaps via the OED: "The calculated use of violence or threat of violence to inculcate fear. Terrorism is intended to coerce or intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological," or we invent a new word for something that varies from the OED definition.

Anything else is through the looking glass.
How dare you interrupt people's two minute hate.

Known to police here most likely means mental health or drug issues, but not sectioned.

People going shopping on a Saturday afternoon and now undergoing surgery or not coming home at all.

Sobering how life can change in an instant, both for the victims and their family & friends.

What a surprise. It seems that some groups are incompatible with western civilisation and values.
That's a harsh thing to say about people from Queensland.

He's named and no he's not a 'usual suspect'. It appears to be mental health.

I’m sure that’s what Croyde and muntu were meaning. Obviously, right?

It's frustrating to see there was the usual leap into mindless bigotry here before any facts were revealed.

Turns out the cop who dealt with him was an inspector too, doesn’t seem to have been rusty from paperwork at all! clap

Not for the thread, but it might help you if you think why you jumped to that pretty grotty conclusion.

Perhaps we keep the thread on topic though!

And sadly X is dripping with idiots questioning her right to “execute” someone.

There is a problem with mental health treatment here - what do you do about people prone to eg schizophrenia?

To keep them locked up permanently just in case they have an episode is both expensive and possibly inhumane, but if they are in the community unsupervised and have an "episode" it can have a tragic outcome.

There is an ongoing legal case here at the moment where someone had a psychotic episode and killed his sister because she was posessed by the devil. Psychosis + drug abuse (ice) - what level of responsibility do you assign to which?

Having said that, most people having a psychotic episode are not violent, just terrified.

Now you are jumping to conclusions.

I was drunk and being an idiot. Hope I'm not too prejudiced as I work with Arabs, have friends who are Muslim. They are as angry and upset about the murders in Sydney as I am.

Again silly of me to post that.

I'm not even sure that "jumping to a conclusion" is the main issue. We all have biases, that's what "unconscious bias" training is about. The issue for me is when people come on the internet and broadcast those biases. frown

Do you think the guy who did this was an Arab or Muslim?

You were drunk at 9.30 in the morning? Or are you not in the UK?
