Unemployment benefits removed after 12 months
Discussion
Should someone be forced into work through this scheme if it would cause their income to drop and make it unaffordable for them to keep a roof over their heads, keep their home warm, and provide food for themselves and their dependents?
Certain discounts and benefits are availible only to those on benefits. If you're forced into a zero-hours contract job, on minimum wage, just so that some outsourced company can hit their targets and get paid a fat bonus from the Government, how can you afford to pay for the extortionate energy prices?
People shouldn't rely on benefits, but then work should be far more desirable because it pays well enough that people can afford to live.
Any sane, sensible Government would do more to increase wages at the bottom percentiles and make work far more beneficial to everyone.

The government already subsidise low earners,do you want them to increase the subsidies or force the employer to pay higher wages ? If it's the latter you could see more unemployment !Certain discounts and benefits are availible only to those on benefits. I think the Conservatives have now lost the plot and are desperate to pick up any right wing votes, while they need more centrists to stand a chance to win.
Capita et al apart, is expecting a safety net to be a safety net unreasonable? I'm not sure what this will achieve. If you are on benefits because you are out of work and looking for a job, and it is deemed that you aren't, then you lose the benefits anyway.
Also governments have always been trying to minimise the number of people on long term sick.
Pure politicking.

The numbers on incapacity benefit have risen significantly to around 2.4 million working age adults. It is forecast to rise further to 2.9 million by 2028-29.
More of the new claimants are younger and claims for mental health conditions form a much higher proportion of the total.
Cynically I don't think the government was all that bothered about older claimants sitting on incapacity benefit as it kept them out of the unemployment numbers, it will be the newer trends that will concern them.
I don’t understand it. The Tories have been fiddling with the benefit system since 2010 and the austerity measures. So not only picking on the poorest but incompetent at picking on the poorest!More of the new claimants are younger and claims for mental health conditions form a much higher proportion of the total.

What exactly are ‘specialist work and health professionals’? Rishi didn’t seem to know. Personally, I thought we already had them.
This smacks of fat contracts to a private company using the cheapest available option (not the fault of the individual) plus a bonus scheme for reducing ‘sick’ (fit) notes to a target that has no connection whatsoever to reality.

You know how in car racing films, when they're flat out they suddenly shift gear and go even faster? Tory policies are the same, just when you think "they've really excelled themselves with this", BANG, another batst idea drops in your lap.
It won't, it never does. When I was growing up I heard many talk about the ways they got around never having to work. Being on the sick, you name it.
Nowadays it's about getting diagnosed by your medical professional as having PTSD, mental health issues etc. PTSD diagnosis - we need official figures on trends etc.
People just don't want to work. Never listened at school? Faced with grafting hard in a factory or warehouse versus similar amounts for sleeping as long as you want- who wouldn't chose the latter?

Interesting how Labour don’t disagree with this but just take a dig at the state of the NHS. They will probably do exactly the same.
It is a valid point though. How many people are waiting for treatment that would enable them to work? Mental health alone is criminally under-resourced and pretty much ignored. For every shirker playing the system there’s plenty more who want to work but are unable to but could do if treatment was quickly amd readily available.
As with everything with this useless government, if it’s not immigrants, it’s the poor and those in most need of help that are to blame.

Doesn't seem unreasonable to me
• Removing benefits after 12 months for those deemed fit for work but who do not comply with conditions set by their work coach - such as accepting a job offer
There is absolutely no reason why someone should not work if they have an offer and are able to. If you simply don't want to work then you shouldn't be able to claim from the taxpayers who are willing to chip in.

If it’s a doctor or other medical professional then fair enough. If it’s non-qualified civil servant or worse, some outsourced Capita drone following a flowchart with targets to hit then I’d be worried.

To be fair VS, all parties when in power have been negligent when it comes to mental health. It’s always been the ginger step-child when it comes to resourcing and priorities and yet most sufferers would love to get back into the workforce and get off benefits if only they had proper support and treatment. If you’re not actually suicidal then you’re pretty much ignored unfortunately.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
