I know from experience that shoving some one can easily cause them to lose their balance (from both ends of it). As the shove isn't very clear on TV is it possible that the shove was a hurry up and not intended to floor the guy at all...he does certainly appear to be deliberately walking slowly/annoyingly. Hitting him with the batton was certainly a bit extreme.
There are two clips from two different angles. The shove is not a "hurry up" shove with the arm, it's a properly executed whole-body thrust from a low base, powered by the legs. It will be a technique he's been trained in for repelling people in a melee. Too forceful in that situation IMO.

Are we sure the video wasn't actually the P&P/Lounge and the MODs pushed a PHer over?

Seriosuly, while I do not condone what the officer did, it does look from the footage that the guy was deliberately trying to antagonise (check spelling) the police. Right at the begining of the footage it appears he was spoken to by another officer and was pushed then, though more gently. He then however continued to drag his feet while they were trying to clear the street. If he was unwell should he not have said so? He may have done, but we dont know yet. If he didnt the police would have moved him on forcibly if he was considered to be ignoring there comands.

is this the same person that the coppers were trying to help whilst he had the heart attack whilst being pelted with objects from the protestors?

Antagonising the police or not the forceful shove is still not appropriate. If it was, then that video of a gilr being tackled and punched in the face by a police officer for kicking her shoes toward him would have also been acceptable.

I believe that in a heart attack scenario a person's arms go limp, the speech gets slurry and they drag their feet. Perhaps that's exactly what happened?

Even if not the guy is facing away from you and IS makin gprogress, he is NOT standing there he IS moving away shoving him to the ground does not speed up his moving away.

I can see no redeeming circumstances in that video myself. No matter how i look at it, the appropriate action would have been to just let the man carry on.

he certainly looked strange in the video like he had just done something to the police and was walking way..... So he was pushed.... happen to fall over.... we dont know if he wasnt having a heart attack beforehand..... and then they helped and got pelted with stuff.....

And the person who gets done is the copper for manslaughter when it should be no more than simply assault and a warning..... whats happening to the people that threw things.... oh wait... fk all.... for all we know that situation could have made it worse and caused the fatal situation....

This is all media bull st....

Obviously the fella was a little pi$$ed off with the police for not letting him go home. He may or may not have gobbed off at them, he may have done this and he may have done that. All this will surely come out in the investigation. But, what he certainly didn't do was behave in such a way that he deserved to be beaten and pushed to the ground with no way of defending himself. This was obvious as the gentleman was not arrested at the time of the assault. As for the actions of the officer, on the face of it brutal and unforgiving but we only have the evidence cut together by the media. I think it would be interesting to see what comes of this.

The copper hit him with a fking cosh - then pushed him in his back as he was WALKING AWAY with his hands in his pocket.

don't care if man did anything before - HE WAS WALKING AWAY when hit and pushed.

he was hit in the leg.... once...

How do we know he didnt provoke or even do something like spit at the officer... they dont usually do that kind of thing unless provoked badly.

At the end of the day... the media have 1/2 the video (how bloody convenient) and are only showing the aftermath.... I bet they have the few minutes before hand too... just that that doesnt make a story...

I was kicked in the face once by a mounted cop at a football match.

I provoked the attack by patting the horse as i was waiting to go in.

I'm not sure what these people expect when they go to a riot, tickling contests and knock-knock jokes?

Funny how things turn around isn't it?

Wasn't that long ago that the Pie and Piston was full of "G20 protesters. aholes. Get a job" etc...

Now the cops are the bad guys and the "protester" (one who is out causing trouble and straining our public services) is the good guy.

I'm not saying that either side is right. What I am saying is there are 3 sides to every story.

His side.
The Policemans side.
The truth.

Stop reading crap newpapers and make up your own opinons. Seems that so many people on here are sucked in by the media.
He wasn't a protestor!

He was a newspaper seller who packed up for the day and was trying to make his way home. At some point he was turned back towards the crowd by the police i.e. they refused to let him through their line.
Ahh, that changes my perspective a little.

Still, no protesters would mean no riot plice and no dicking about would mean no heavy handed crowd control tactics.

Once again the workshy get in the way of the great british taxpayer...
