No argument from me on that one. While it's still not easy to get in(due to competition rather than higher standards), standards of recruitment have dropped in the last 5-6 years. When I joined a significant amount of new recruits were ex NCO/Officers from the armed forces.

Sadly now, it's the ability to say the right thing (Although I'm certainly not suggesting that every new recruit is below standard). They then spend their time having their PC chip inserted at training school, which we have to remove when they venture into the 'real' world.

The fitness test is now nothing more than an ability to walk quickly for a few minutes. The standard was reduced because a tough test was 'discriminatory'. I'd love to see entry levels raised, but what we have now certainly doesn't make the kind of organisation suggested by 'The Duke'.

Their are some lazy Officers, some pretty useless ones. However, the canteens have been closed and I don't know anyone who's a Mason (what does one look like!). If there is someone on the take, they deserve everything they get.

The people I do know are damn hard working, put themselves at risk every working day and are just trying to do the best they can. They, like me are not interested in praise or a 'well done' for doing their jobs. But equally, they don't deserve the dross that such a warped individual endlessly puts out.

I think DoR has a point. The Police shouldn't have criminals in its ranks, so when they're found, they should be removed and prosecuted.

Just to add: if this had been some sales guys in a corporate environment, does anybody think this would have even gone past instant dismissal?

The penalties for offending when in a position of trust are much harsher than for those who are not.

You are guilty of playing the man not the ball here BB. Despite annoying a large section of PH, I don't recall DOR doing the same.

You're wrong! I have worked for at least 2 companies that reported and seen prosecuted through to prison sentences for "fraud" for only about 4 grand. And rightly so.

Again, I dont see the Duke critisising the police for their investigation, he's merely pointing it out!
Maybe I am missing something here!
