Mods - do we need these rent-a-rant threads?
We all know these types of people exist but ranting about them ad nauseum on an internet forum isn't going to change things, is it?
Eric, I for one respect your judgement on most things but here I think you're wrong. I'm unfortunate to meet people like this on a daily basis and as I can't rant at them at work its good to let the bile overflow here.We all know these types of people exist but ranting about them ad nauseum on an internet forum isn't going to change things, is it?
It also reminds people what a mess we are in and that we need to elect a party next year that will try to solve this problem once and for all.

I'm not saying that people who behave badly should be treated as lightly as they seem to be. I'm just saying that whingeing, ranting and tossing expletives at ones keyboard serves no purpose except perhaps to allow the poster to vent some spleen.

Most of the pointless threads are entertaining, though.
But seriously, surely, there's a much better use of one's energy when it comes to the OP's link? Someone asked above, how long before action is taken? Well, if we have forums to rant on, then it'll be a long while. Once upon a time, we'd grab our pitchforks and flaming torches much sooner. Nowadays, we rush to the keyboard and hammer it angrily, then get on with the drudgery of our (well, your) daily lives.

Some interesting posts from local resident Kathryn Kerr in the comments - possibly another side to this story it appears.
Possibly, though i think she's covering for said family (these scum families tend to spread their gene pool and influence over the neighbourhood). I'd also like to know if in fact her car was vandalised as many times as was claimed (smells of "poor innocent me") if at all - we may never know. Fact, is this family was re-housed (at least once) because they're pikey scum, and it's not like they are reformed and going to church every Sunday. I think alot of the liberal do-gooders on here have never lived on or near council housing (i have) and never will. But the saddest bit about most of these stories, is that the victims turn on themselves .. well you get my jist don't you?Edited by fido on Tuesday 6th October 15:30
Eric: Apologies for not making the thread title clearer. I am well aware that these threads tend to crop up on a regular basis, and perhaps should have added this one to a previous thread.
I only read the story as it was linked on the home page (am guessing as it is similar in some respects to the Fiona Pilkington case), and it demonstrates how no-one was willing to take responsibilty to help this woman.
I know that I'll not do anything about it, but cases such as these should be more widely highlighted in order to show up the people who genuinely had the power to help, but felt it beneath them.

Asher wrote to two local MPs, Robert Syms and Annette Brooke, who in turn wrote to Dorset’s chief constable, Martin Baker, who wrote to someone else down the line, which resulted in a junior sergeant writing to Asher to tell her she had an unrealistic expectation of the law. She wrote to James Meston QC, the crown court judge who had evicted the Hambridges, who replied that he was “greatly concerned” by the abuse — and referred it to the council.

For someone that is supposedly family orientated, am surprised that more wasn't done to ensure that this wasn't being brushed under the carpet.Select Committee membership

Looks like you haven't read what KK had to say tbh.

Not really no - council etstates aren't all hell-holes like you're implying (yes been there)
No you've infered that. I never said they were hell-holes .. you tend to get 'few' problem families who make everyone's life a misery. And as with many problems in life, people will cover for them, in fear of reprisal or just to have an easier life.kerplunk said:

No you've infered that. I never said they were hell-holes .. But hey i guess all you Guardian reading folk like mixing it with our social detritus, and would happily swap your Islington townhouse for 24b in Nelson Mandela estate.

But I think we can take it as granted that anyone who has 'moved up' would not want to move down again, myself included
The way to deal with Feral scum is to get the heavies in, corner the scum, tell them they are taking one of them and he/she wont be coming back, make sure they know that if there is ANY more trouble, they will be back for another, then take one, and make sure he/she does not come back.
