He gained unanimous approval for his recent resolution at the UN security council calling on nuclar states to scrap their weapons. Bit of a contrast with the last one who just wanted to invade everywhere....

Slightly different but none the less relevant I agree. Reagan negotiated an arms reduction with Gorbachev which lead to a bi lateral agreement (INF treaty) which was absolutely commendable. Obama seems to be calling for a total illimination of nukes.

This is ridiculous. I'm still favourably inclined towards him, but he hasn't even got close to deserving this yet. Faute de mieux, I suppose - it's difficult to think of anyone who deserves it this year.

but wasn't Raygun also the one that initiated the "star wars" arms race (MAD doesn't work if the AD isn't M, although the policy worked out in the end for economic reasons), worked to destabilise communist countries by funding rebel factions (hardly peaceful, if justified in e.g. Afghanistan), invading small defenseless counties (Grenada) because a power struggle meant the had a government he didn't like. It seems to me there are plenty of good reasons not to give Reagan the Nobel peace prize that don't (yet) apply to Obama.
