1) why have they not been shot
2) why has the person in charge of security not been sacked

I would cordon off the whole area, stop any contact with them from anybody inc the press and leave them there to get bored. When they get down, arrest them.

Your kind of missing the point...

I don't think anyone really cares WHO is up there, it's more that how did they manage to get up there when our 'supposed' anti-terrorist measures are supposed to be so tight?

This happens all the time in the US....quite often you see various pressure groups get past security at the white house and set up protests next to the snipers and surface to air missle operators on the roof there.

So the public wants:

a) Non-oppressive security measures, and the right to protest/campaign wherever they want
b) No-one to breach any of the (now relaxed) security measures

One or the other, I imagine they weren't shot as they weren't deemed that kind of threat - or do Al-Quaida just need to dress up as Climate Activists now?

Spray them with honey, then throw bird seed all over them and then get all the flying rats from Trafalgar Square to migrate over and peck them to death. Then shoot the birds.

2 lots of undesirables removed in one go.

Uh, Parliament is it not?

But as to the OP, it never ceases to amaze me how easy it appears to be for people to get up on the roof.

And imagine all the extra Co2 they would have breathed out from their exhausting climb.

FFS people break into the houses of parliament and do the UK a favour and wait to greet Winky.

There is probably a signposted designated "Houses of Parliament Rooftop Protest Area" these days - with access stairs and ladders and appropriate Health and Safety Notices..

I wonder how amused they would be if 47 protesters camped in their offices? (Canonbury Villas, London, N1 2PN)

Anybody would think there was an upcoming climate freebie, at somewhere like Copenhagen, which protesters wanted to exert pressure on, what with them being part of a charity that gets funding from political sources to pressure the politicians into doing what they want to do anyway.

Mmmm, cosy.

Personally, I think the fact a bunch of wode-daubing tree-fondling garlic-meusli-chomping pine-scatter-cushion-weaving smellies can spend time on a roof in Westminster without being shot is an excellent development.

It means I can spend more time killing endangered species with a variety of high-explosive or kinetic-energy ordnance, and cooking the results, without the aforementioned smellies giving me a hard time.

Deep-fried Blue Whale, served in a fresh White Rhino bap, topped with Siberian Tiger Tonsils (left tonsil only, obviously - and you need at least a dozen to do the dish justice) - absolutely delicious, if a tad filling.
