Indeed, and it's the next area to be taxed - hence the HIPS reports. When the illegitimate Son of Kyoto is (not) agreed in Nohopenhagen this December, there will be other means devised of taxing the bejesus out of us.
Remember this? Buying and owning designer clothes, gardening equipment and tools, glassware and kitchen kit, audio-visual recreational equipment and cars is killing the planet. These should all be hired, not owned, according to the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

Property is theft. Green is red.
Every hour on the radio is drive five miles less, every advert break on nearly every channel sees doggo drowning in information pollution. Relentless claptrap.
This fever pitch propaganda onslaught means the politicos know their game has been rumbled and it's now steamroller time to see if sheer weight of bilge can drown out sense and reason. Not a chance - the reaction these mindless ads are getting is overall counter-productive to their creators' aim.

Perhaps people could use their cars a little less and use the wonderful, modern, cheap and reliable public transport system provided by the government using all the taxes that we pay. You know like they have on the continent. The road space freed up would mean less congestion for the rest.
Errr no!
Perhaps a concerted move to re-engineer and improve bottlenecks such as most of the main M1 junctions in the Midlands - there's been congestion at junction 21 for years, so why had this not been improved to stop the queueing traffic wasting valiable carbons?
How about abandoning the Olympics and unwinnable wars to avoid all these carbons being burnt unnecessarily, and plough the money back into the above?
Errr no!
The list goes on....

By the way, our lead is diminishing. Let's not rest on our laurels, I'm sure there's plenty of people who haven't yet voted!

The list of Government duplicity, incompetence and lies goes on and on.
Does anyone know how we can bring an early end to all this st?
Not via a "carbon dioxide diet" which the eeejits have now got playing in an advert on local radio alongside the "drive five miles less" idiocy Does anyone know how we can bring an early end to all this st?
The eco nutter adverts annoy the hell out of me. Yes I drive a 3.5 litre car but I only do 2000 miles a year maximum! My car's annual CO2 output is far less than nearly everyone else I know as they're using their cars daily.
If I was driving 10-20K+ miles a year, I'd have something more economical and 'greener' but this would be primarily to save money as I'd not be too keen averaging 25mpg on a daily commute of 85 miles return!
As I'm forced to pay VED and insurance 7 days a week whether I use the car or not, I shall drive what I bloody well want...

This is what really pisses me off about the UK, and it does seem to be worse here than anywhere else. Why the hell should you feel you have to justify your lifestyle in a country that is supposed to be a democratic free market economy, and feel compelled to defend what you buy with your hard earned, after paying numerous taxes, NI and everything else! Sometimes, it feels like this nasty morally and financially bankrupt (anti)government pay benefits to people to do their bidding - it seems strange that such people can openly slag you off for your lifestyle (even damage your property with impunity, that you work hard for, whilst taking, without any effort at all, a percentage of the fruits of your labour! If I was driving 10-20K+ miles a year, I'd have something more economical and 'greener'.

It seems the population of the UK is split into two camps. Those that believe all the ste that the government tell them and those that don't, but do nothing about it but complain on the internet or down the pub.
Possibly your evidence base is misleading you on that score baptistsan said:
True. Should have said the less well informed, apologies for my sweeping generalisation.
It’s an age old trick, used not unsparingly by both left (and right) wing politicos and advertisers – “Join in the new Bingo craze that’s sweeping the nation” (really?) – “The album by not-very-good-at-all ex X-Factor ‘star’ that has everybody talking” (first I heard of this!)And now – “Everybody agrees man made Climate Change is real, and are demanding action” (Are they really!?)
Whilst the first two examples are harmless enough, the third isn’t, it is politically motivated and coercive, meant to fool people into thinking it’s what they want – to have more restrictions and new taxes imposed on them. I have a feeling more people are waking up to this fact than what you see and read would lead you to believe..
If I drive 5 miles a week less I'll be too far away from my delivery points for the forklifts to come and unload me
I drive 1500 miles a week in my 1.8TDDi Ford Connect trying to be as economical as I can. My 540i is used about once very 3 weeks and may do 20 miles.
Usual gubbermint propaganda cobblers. Tun off more traffic lights and let us keep moving, that would ease things.
Oh and tell China to stop with the coal fired power stations. They're a darn site worse than all of our "gas guzzlers".
