My life is just too short to get wound up by this sort of thing. So a council runs the odd hour here and there where they cater to a minority. So what? Does it really affect anyone on here?

It's a public swimming pool FFS! I'd get more wound up by the changing room carpet of soggy pubes than I ever could about what the dress code was.

Sigh....

This country is going off the beaten track, over the rocky mountains and down the bottomless pit found over those said mountains.

I really do despair frown

Can we just have WW3 (West + Israel vs Muslims) and be done with it
Yea, Genocide is the answer, isn't it?
No-one said anything about genocide, since we'd win WW3 we'd be able to govern these Muslim places, perhaps we can go and apply some communist ideals from Soviet Russia and ban Islam
Of course we would win. We've got god on our side. See how well its worked against Afghanistan.

Were you born stupid, or catch it in later life?
'Stan is hardly WW3 is it? That type war would be fought all out, not worrying what nastiness a reporter picks up on.
Suicide bombers with backpack nukes? The buggers will cheat....

It effects you if more than you know. What if your family were to bring some visiting female guests there and don't have the appropriate attire? You think it stops there?

Then they wouldn't be able to swim, the same way I wouldn't be able to train if I turned up for a women only gym class. Its not the end of the world. We all have to live on this lump of rock, best if we all cooperate and try and get on don't ya think?

You don't mind being told to cover your legs and not swim in the bit reserved for women, then...?

It's a couple of hours a week. So what?

I used to be a member of a gym chain we have over here called Holmes Place. Now they really did piss me off with their discriminatory policies to the point where I left and joined their competition.

They had a section of the gym which was women only. Not some of the time, but all of the time. Female members didn't pay any more for this privilege, and there was nothing more frustrating than standing around waiting for a machine which is being used by a woman when the exact same machine is standing empty in the women only section!

Strangely, that didn't make the tabloids though, because that was for all women, not just Muslim ones.

If the swimming pool were to apply a full time Muslim dress code, then yes, I'd be narked about it, but from what I can see in the article, it's a couple of hours a week? What's wrong with a bit of tolerance and "live and let live" when it's just for a couple of hours?

In the exceedingly unlikely event that I ever find myself taking visiting female guests of the family to a public swimming bath in an area with a sufficiently high Muslim population for this sort of thing to be on offer, and we happen to get there right in the middle of Muslim hour, then I'll just suggest we go for a coffee until that session finishes, in exactly the same way as I would if I'd arrived to find it was the middle of an Aquarobics session or something.

Oh for Feks sake!!!!!! I have worked in Saudi and have abided by their rules ie no shorts and T-shirts even when it is fekin' 40 odd degrees outside, can't take a female worker into a restaurant as she has to go in the family section, no booze and fek all to do on Friday as it's a day of rest.

So when in Rome yada yada yada!!

So if I can live by their rules, they can soddin' well live by mine when in my country.

Rant brought to youse with the help of Singha and Cobra. Night all.

The article lost me at "public pools"

yuck

I prefer my own pool, thanks. My pool, my rules. Even have a fitness test. If I think you're fit, then you're invited. Certain of my wife's friends are banned for life. after one of them broke the harpoon - it just bounced off

Excuse me. You are saying it is OK for a minority religious group to dictate dress code for a public pool all Brits pay taxes for?? What am I missing here?

Been to Kansas City. Cured me. No desire to go back (especially not through KCIA). Doesn't effect me.

Not desire to go anywhere in Minnesota. I hear they have snow.

This isn't pools declaring that we must all wear mdest attire at all times, but just during the odd hour, its a non story. I don't complain that i can't go to the pool during OAP hour, same difference.

HOWEVER, the fact that as I started to read the article I thought it was plausible that certain places may be doing this is a sad reflection on this country, the fact it has become so laughable that I could even assume it could be true without almost a second thought.
