Snow storm stretching a 1,000 miles across the north central and north east of the nation. 20-30 inches of snow with 50 MPH wind gusts. Where is Al Gore this week?
That's why they stopped calling it global warming and started calling it climate change, either way prepare to have your 'green' taxes increased. . . . . .

Is it true that there is still land there free for settlers?
There is probably more "land for free" in Lousiana, but you'd have to bulldoz the ocean and the dead out to reclamate it...

...anually.

I thought that they'd sorted the zombie problem?

Was Canada really that much warmer than usual?

4 degrees sounds a lot, but if that means it was -20 instead of -24 it doesn't look quite as bad.
I live in Toronto where we have had basically a snow-free winter with a few cold snaps. It has been viciously cold on the Prairies, and as you will see, warm in Olympics Vancouver. I have not had to shovel snow here even once this winter. The Northern Stares and Canada are fairly well equipped for snow clearing, and drivers are used to it. In DC there is relatively little snow equipment and winter tires are unnecessary and unheard of, so the whole place just grinds to a halt. ( Not sure how you tell whether government is at a halt).

You're there and I'm not, but I thought the issue with lack of snow and the Winter Olympics was more to do with the inappropriate siting of the snowboard and other events too close to the sea, in an effort to secure a suitably awaesome backdrop, that it was with the weather - bags of snow at the main venues?

Well, I'm not 'too' far from Toronto, and we've had our average snowfall this year, but the temperatures are fking colder than normal.

Did Delaware really order all vehicles off the roads or is that just a rumour?
That is normal, declare a state of emergency, it makes it easier for the ploughs. In NJ we have S of E till 8am Sunday. Basically means emergency vehicles and snow ploughs only, but if you are a doctor nurse utility worker one is still expected to attend work.
If you do drive be aware that a plough will not stop at a red light. It cannot stop with three tons of snow in front of it, it would never get going again.
State of emergency also gets you access to Federal dollarsbiggrin
With load sof snow in front of it i dont think the driver would even notice a car amongst it biglaugh

Time for this vid again

Local radio station in Mobile is predicting snow here in Florida at the weekend! Superb, just got to drive to NY on Monday/Tuesday. This could be fun.

I've just driven from Boston to Syracuse, and it was fine. Can't vouch for the big snowy bit underneath that, however hehe
