But obviously not quite "meh" enough for you ignore the thread?

I aspire to be an internet cool kid one day.

Internet kid smile Great. At 43 its a long time since I was called a kid.

But as the previous poster said...
There are people deserving of a days worth of obituaries. A bloke who makes skirts and suits isn't one of em in my humble internet opinion.

So, not deserving of any real adulation and I didn't know him so meh.

Not going to apologise for having an opinion on the self inflicted death of another one of the vacuous ones.

But go ahead, have an internet weep if ya want to.

The saddest thing about this?

It gets a bright red "BREAKING NEWS" ticker, with obituaries, photo galleries, "Your memories", "An unimaginable loss" ad nauseam.

The latest British soldier KIA (number 257) is pushed to one side, so easily ignored.
That is a very fair point.

And although the counter argument is that Mr McQueen was a (quite) well known person it does of course not mean any one person's life is more "newsworthy" than another.

My kneejerk reaction is the Diana effect when it comes to public outpourings of grief over people you never knew. But I was thinking only the other day, after another UK service death overseas, that those incidences are becoming like the situation in the 80s where another death in Belfast would be treated almost with a shrug, as it had become such a regular occurrence. Which is a very sad state of affairs that looks set to continue.

I often think people who are engaged in this type of "show" business can be victims of various mental problems, such as bipolar disorder. In other words, the atributes that drive them to be high achievers are the same atributes that can also cause them to have dark thoughts about themselves.
very much so. It's often the issues that give them the edge and you need the edge to be at the top of your game. Someone I knew a while back absolutely refused point blank to do anything about 'her' bipolar. Her greatest work, her best visions and inspiration came from her mania and also her best and darkest creativity came from the deepest parts of her depression.

Supremely talented and utterly at the mercy of the rollercoaster that created her brilliance.

In that case, would it not be simpler to not post than to post to say nothing but "meh"?

One of Britain's main attributes (which the politicians will never take from us normal folk) is its fashion, music and art. He was an important part of that and will be missed.

Very sad news, even more so when you hear about the circumstances, but as usual you always get one or two imbeciles on here with their pathetic and misplaced attempts at humour.

Both deaths were a waste but for different reasons. I feel pretty sad that McQueen felt it was all too bad and topped himself, and pretty mad at the prat who started this bloody war. Its not the way I like to end the day.

Would "meh" be appropriate comment on a thread about dead soldiers that i dont know....or do you have to make skirts to attract your interest and disrespect?

Very, very sad - an extremely talented person in a very competitive arena where he was an acknowledged world leader.

No you have to top yerself when yer at the top of your game.

The soldier died cos he was "defending" the countries interest, (irrespective if you agree with the war or not).
The dressmaker died because he was unhappy being rich and famous.
Boo hoo.

FFS you are trying to make a link from soldiers to a dress maker.

ROFL.

Meh is a response. One I think is right in regard to this being news. Opinions, we all have one.

Smiler.

Was this chap really a genius though (as per the reports on the beeb this morning)?

Michael Faraday - I reckon he was.
Alan Turing - I know he was.
The neurosurgeon who corrected my lumber malfunctions - he definitely was.

Next, he'll be labelled a "hero" for his outstanding work with the Ruff & the Pom-Pom.

It's is sad when someone dies, made worse in the case of suicide, but really.
