Winky cynically uses dead daughter - desperation?
Discussion
So Winky has recorded an interview, to be broadcast this weekend, in which he emotionally describes the moment when his baby daughter died, whilst the camera cuts to Sarah dabbing the tears away.
Now let me be clear; the loss of a child is a terrible, terrible thing for any couple to have to endure, and I wish them no ill around that fact.
However - could there possibly be a more despicably cynical attempt to hang on to power than this? It was EIGHT years ago; and whoops, all of a sudden, on the eve of an election, he feels the need to open his heart to the nation on TV - and on the Piers fking Morgan show, of all places.
I had an intense dislike for Brown before today; however, this stunt places him quite firmly in the "loathsome" category, and I sincerely hope that the scorn of the nation rings in his ears as he loads the removal van.

It is a curious turn for a man who said in 2008: “Some people have been asking why I haven’t served my children up for spreads in the papers. And my answer is simple. My children aren’t props; they’re people.”

I really, REALLY hope this isn't as utterly distasteful a plea for public sympathy as it sounds. These tragedies should not be for public consumption.
Having just seen a clip, it more certainly appears to be a fairly, uh, considered sympathy plea.....I really, REALLY hope this isn't as utterly distasteful a plea for public sympathy as it sounds. These tragedies should not be for public consumption.
I thought he wasn't going to use his family for politics?
It would have attracted less cynicism if he hadn't done the interview with Morgan, whose sole intention would have been to get a headline out of him; Either an angry comment, controversial remark or tears.
Seems it the latter.
Playing devil's advocate; I'm sure it's a difficult subject and, knowing Morgan, a wound that the interviewer will have prodded and prodded when talking about it but he should have known that would happen before agreeing to it.

Just seen a clip on News 24. They kept showing shots of his wife in the audience whilst he was talking, and she was constantly darting furtive glances sideways at the camera.
What happened to the unwritten rule that they would not use their families to gain political advantage?
I cannot think of a thing more private than grief of a lost child. The man has no shame. Utterly utterly despicable.

I hope that jock has to watch all of his kids die slowly and painfully in front of whatever eyes he has left.
He's somewhere above Bin Laden on my "most hated" list.
What a nice man you are - jock ...that's lovely. I have always loved every single one of you englishmen from Churchill...to Blair all sooooo lovely, never done anything wrong. He's somewhere above Bin Laden on my "most hated" list.

I agree - none of us would get in the slightest bit upset if asked questions about the time a close relative/child/whoever died - in our fking arms..ofcourse not. Especially after 8 years, he's despicable.
You are completely missing the point.I have nothing but sympathy for anyone who loses a child.
He should never have agreed to talk about it in public, and his motivation for doing so is clearly to gain public sympathy and thus political advantage. It's utterly fking shameful.
