I think professional footballers and all the hangers on are very lucky that the average low intelligence Brit appears to be obsessed with the game, hence supplying all the money, but that's not an insult just an observation.

As for the gay issue, what's the point? Coming out won't change anything, they'll just get targeted more, which they've obviously worked out judging by the reason for the article.

But personally I do love football, never watch a game as it bores me to bits, but I'm in a lucky position to be able to make a living out of gambling on it smile

Couldn't agree with you more. Then I left that stupid Island that rewards chavs and morons and found out that I no longer have to put up with morons and football!
You have however managed to take that low paid engineer chip on your shoulder with you.
Well done.

What's wrong? Isn't there a relationship thread around that you can be trolling/making an arse of yourself on?

But won't the other tools in the box be having a less enjoyable life and be earning considerably less money? How are they more intelligent?

All this talk of intelligence or lack of it is funny (and I think most of it is said with sarcasm) but I bet if we looked at the IQ's of the highest earners, that stat would come below ambition, drive, dedication, skill, fate, who you know, and in many cases dishonesty, as a percentage of what makes someone successful.

I always love reading the posts from people who complain about football and the support it garners.

You can tell that they are the same people who used to end up standing in the corner of the playground tied to the fence by their ties.

Is that it?

Your posts just drip with envy. It's not a positive trait. If someone can earn huge amounts of money legally, then good luck to them.

You obviously have issues with the deemed worth of your own profession compared with that of entertainers and sportsmen and women.

Not envious at all actually, i.e I have no interest in doing what a footballer does and nor could I. In my view I just don't think what certain professions do warrants the rewards they get or the hero worship. I'm actually very happy with the deemed worth of my profession over here and in Germany. I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. I WILL still keep harping on and on about how my fellow British engineers are treated however until it irritates more and more of you.

Predictable if rather dissappointing response. A bitter cynic who gets his kicks out of belittling those in relationship and other open threads is now a self professed psychology expert.

A percentage of people in all professions and walks of life will be gay. I don't see it as the job of any of them, including football, to promote it or otherwise. What business is it of ours?

I'm sick to death of people 'promoting' minorities as if they have some right to special attention.

What on earth are you wittering about?

You say it isnt envy and in the next remark mention you dont think football warrants rewards compared to your own profession.

That is a pretty good textbook definition of envy.

They are good at a sport - it's not intelligence really though is it? - i mean are you telling me Wayne Rooney is intelligent - damn good footballer but probably not the sharpest tool in the box (albeit one without a goal). As someone who has to share the tube/train with their 'fans' in SW London (think Blue) i can definitely say a sizeable number of them are morons. Rugby fans are less likely to behave like wkers .. though one tried to chest-bounce me for a 'larf' so i guess there's always the exception.

Why does a footballer need to be intelligent?

I remember when Beckham was at his height and a lot of comedians used to take the micky about his lack of intelligence in post match interviews.

I seem to recall an exchange along the the lines of

"Beckham isn't exactly a Stephen Hawking"

" but Stephen Hawking is crap at football"

You don't need to be intelligent to play football.
A degree of physical fitness is desirable , the ability to act really badly whenever you fall over, a taste for mock tudor mansions and a predilection for gang banging prossies with your team mates, that's what you need to be a footballer! biggrin
