Is it actually illegal to identify someone like the Bulger killers in the same way it is for victims of sexual abuse or certain underage criminals?

Identifying someone subject to an anonymity order would be a contempt of court and punishable by imprisonment or a fine.

No doubt its been mentioned, but why are their identities still being hidden? I understood that the change of identities was to give them a chance of rehabilitation. This has clearly failed in Venebles case, so why can he not revert back to being Venebles? Huntley and other similar evil individuals don't benefit from having their identities hidden.
The police have a duty to protect life (whoever’s it may be). They also have a duty to maintain public safety and order.

If his whereabouts and identity became generally known, it’s not too difficult to imagine mobs/angry crowds gathering and order being threatened. His personal safety may be threatened (this may not be an issue depending on your POV) but public safety may also become a problem. The easiest way to prevent this happening is to ensure the public don’t know where to find him.

And yes I realise this is also a good argument for keeping him incarcerated.....

Venables is clearly a very sick person whose sickness has driven him to commit truly abhorrent crimes.

Mind you, relishing and reveling in that depth of self righteous Daily Mail style vigilantism doesn't actually make you look all that healthy either...
Do you know what he did .are you able to tell the difference between Forum joshing and banter and the real world.
He is EVIL not sick EVIL.
I know perfectly well what Venables did thank you. You obviously do as well.

If you were just having a laugh about it then you ought to be utterly ashamed of yourself for the lack of empathy shown toward those people affected by trivialising his horrific crimes. If not and you were verging towards being serious in relishing what you'd like to do to him then you've demonstrated you're no better than Venables yourself.

Either way it's not a healthy mindset at all. I'd leave it right there if I were you.

People seem to forget that the killers were only ten years old when they did what they did. It was horrible, but the killers were children. One of them seems to have been rehabilitated. The other has a penchant for child porn, and for that he should remain in prison a while. He hasn't, as far as we know, attacked anyone else.

Dearie me. Please try to comprehend I'm not threatening you so there's no need to throw your toys around the nursery.

Just felt the need to make you aware of how much of a rabid Daily Mail reading vigilante you presented as and how much offence you are almost certainly causing by having a bit of a laugh about such devastatingly serious crimes.

Oh, and just so you know for next time - It's you're, not your, and sentences always start with a big letter not a little one.

Sorry Steve, I don't read the Daily Mail, also I'm a pretty poor shot.
However I'd still step forward for the job.
It may cause you to think that I have issues, but I'm cool with that.

Venables should rot in hell for what he did
Likewise the other scummer, I’m sure some of the posters on here declaring how they should be left alone and allowed a normal life, would soon change there tune if there precious young child was butcherd in the same way as poor young James Bulger was, 10 years old is no excuse for what they did to that poor boy
They should of never been let out,

Give it a rest Steve eh?

For years you've been constantly posting that anybody who moves one letter on their number plate a couple of centimeters must be a drug dealing gangster with an orange slut wife. I hardly think someone with your unhinged perspectives is in any position to talk down to others as rabid Daily Mail reading vigilantes.

the difference with you and myself is I speak from a position of some knowledge.
You see I know these lads not them specifically but as I went to the same school as they did (many years before) I grew up not 400 yards from where they grew up so its not the Daily Mail I use for reference its experience and first hand knowledge.
Now I also know the parents (again not personally) but given the opportunity they would gladly rip them apart limb from limb and piss on their rotten corpses and gladly face the consequences. How does that fit with your self appointed positon of Pistonheads chief sthouse.
Don't get involved in a game where you don't know the rules and don't be such an opinionated prick.

The problem is whoever the judge is or maybe the lawmakers that decide he should be free its never their problem, I would really like to ask one of these people are you happy for him to live nextdoor to you or if your that sure that he is ok to be free then he must live in your house with your children as someone somewhere has to be exposed it. You ok with that?
Funny how the people who dont want him dead or to rot in prison dont want to comment on this. "I'm alright Jack"

It's a ludicrous point, barely worthy of comment. Everyone in society is affected by crime, but long prison sentences achieve little except containment (which may be appropriate) and the satisfaction of atavistic clamour for punishment. Harsh penal regimes in the US have not solved crime there. In the instant case, two children from crappy backgrounds did an appalling thing. One has grown up and not re offended, the other is addicted to illegal porn. He may need containment.

Those who call for the pair to lose anonymity are in substance calling for lynching, as that is what would ensue. I wonder if those who call for mob rule would really enjoy living in a society that was ruled by the mob.

I dont see harsh prison sentences as a way of solving crime, its justice for the victim and keeps these people out of innocent peoples lives, people dont want them in society or living next door to us. How many have you living with you or even next door.

I dont agree with the mob rule.

Why shouldn't Thompson, who has been rehabilitated, be allowed to live a normal life? I would not object to an ex convict living next door. Should all ex convicts be made to live in gated enclosures? You either lock up all criminals forever (care to pay for that?) or you release people. Some will integrate back into society. Some won't.
