Oooo the sun in outburst at foreign country for imposing its law on brits abroad shocker.
While I agree with that statement generally, perhaps Britain should not do any business, and forbid any British company to do business, with places that seem to have laws that blatantly violate human rights.
This is fking daft and to suggest that Britain doesn't do business with them! We need all the fricking help we can get to keep Britain afloat from sinking too fast.

If in Dubai, don't do what the locals aren't doing. Also, don't expect to enjoy a similar level of rights! If you don't like that, don't go there!
yes It is an arrogance that seems to follow British tourists to foreign countries they seem very unwilling to tow the line and do as the locals do. Even in countries like France the culture is different, Brits that claim the French are arrogant and unpleasant have clearly made no effort to be like their hosts, I have never found the french to anything other than helpful and friendly when you make an effort.
well said sir smile

Agreed, I've a friend who goes every year and loves it. The whole idea of the place makes my toes curl.

Slave labour and draconian laws arent really on my list of desirables for a holiday destination.
You'll have trouble finding a destination outside of Western Europe, Australia and North America then smile
And?
Do you not think you are limiting what the world has to offer by sticking around in places that are effectively hotter versions of the UK?
I dont. I cant really be bothered. Call me small minded, or a liberal leftie who wont visit countries where I dont agree with their way of doing things... either way I dont really want to go.

Add to that I dont do "summer" holidays and the idea of baking in 40+ degree heat definitely doesnt do it for me, I need a mountain and some snow to have a decent holiday!

I did Greece once for a friends wedding, I spend nearly the entire time on my hotel balcony running up a massive room service bill for funny coloured girlie cocktails, for me it was too hot to venture any further.

And no, I'm not a daywalker/ginger smile

Maybe there is an equivalent outcry in Saudi over this? "We can beat and kill our employees at home, what is this backwards british tradition of murder charges "

I don't see Dubai as a viable tourist destination which is what it purports to be. It's expensive. has little in the way of natural scenery and nothing beyond a few "novelty" buildings to look at. I can't see them trying to emulate Las Vegas, Singapore, Hong Kong or Shanghai in the "Entertainments" front as their laws won't allow it. Ass it stands they are heading down a dead end.

I'm not a fan of Dubai as a holiday destination but the millions of tourists flocking there each year obviously are.

Hookers are widely available, and so is alcohol so where there is money to be made their laws will find a way around it (or people find a way around the laws). Give it a few years and casinos will be widespread too.

you'd have to be a fking fruitloop to sleep with a hooker over there. If kissing in public gets you banged up what's poking a hooker going to get you? Knob chopped off?

If you mean visiting places that I have to worry about my wife being attacked by some crazed religious fanatic? No... I think I can miss that. I'm also happy with missing the slavery and degradation.

Nothing wrong with sticking to USA, Canada, Europe, Aus, NZ, Japan, South Korea ... add to that Singapore and perhaps HK at most

Still in Europe technically
And before you get any ideas, so is Greenland.

I think you might need an atlas if you didn't know that

I have some family there, but I dislike the place unless you are 24/7 (and I mean 24/7) on the beach in Goa.
