In my local area they are protesting at KFC's decision to trial Halal at KFC. Looking at the Facebook protest group (now around 2000 people just for the local KFC) I agree they should be choice so why can't they sell both ? instead of forcing 90% of the KFC eating population to eat Halal.

My personal views on the subject have nothing to do with religion its purely KFC trying to capture a growing market before some other fast food chain corner this market segment. (locally we have Dixey Chicken which sell Halal Chicken) It will be interesting to see the outcome on this, do you upset the 90% to satisfy the 10% and hope that the 90% adapt ? what are your views ?

They are pretty insistent that it is stunned-Halal, so it won't make much difference to my twice-a-decade visits.

Saw this on your facebook last night, and have just been to look at the link that you gave and noticed this

1. Why have you decided to trial halal in these stores?

Feedback from consumers has indicated that there is significant demand for halal food from KFC. We've chosen these stores as they are in within areas where we expect demand for halal food from KFC. Wherever possible, we have taken steps to ensure that these restaurants are within a 7 mile radius of a non-halal store in order to cater to all of our customers' needs.

Now I can only name 3 in this close area that I know of, namely Colne, the little take away in Duke Bar and Accrington, and all those are on the list, so I fail to see how they are implementing their own criterior here.

and for the record, Dixy Chicken is vile

I think it's all about getting more £££'s in.

If you had a KFC franchise, and your takings would increase significantly if you went halal, would you have any objections to it?

Yea but, if I wanted Kosher, then I would head to a Kosher butcher/shop, if I wanted Halal, then I would head to a halal shop to buy it, so why change something that is not halal into one that is, when there are enough halal places already? (and there sure is round here!)

Supply and demand. Good luck to them in looking for a way to maximise their profits. Fried chicken takeaways seem to be big business in Moslem parts of the UK so it's no wonder they want a bit of the pie.

I couldnt give a st, all tastes the same anyway.

Complaining about what you're eating when it's coming from KFC in any case seems a bit ridiculous.

So I am assuming that we will now see the animal rights bellends picketing these places now then?

No, thought not.

Tastes the same and expands your target market. Why wouldn't you do it?

Subway have also done this. Dont see what all the fuss is about.

IIRC the biggest supplier of halal chicken in the UK is Freemans and I don't think their owned by muslims, so it's just business thats all.

I don't understand the objection to this. I find it hard to believe that anyone who regularly eats KFC is concerned about animal welfare.

Up to them I guess. If they think it's viable and it'll win extra market sector then of course they'll give it a punt.
Personally, I would never (knowingly) eat Halal anything. Ever. Just as I would never enter a restaurant that sold shark fin soup, but then again I don't eat KFC and probably never will.
I would have thought that your average KFC punter probably doesn't know anything about Halal and probably couldn't give a st either way . . . which is probably why they're doing it.

- or their own health. My parents 'local' is now a Halal shop - good prices (or used to be as we now find the cash and carry's in the Peoples.R.O.Tooting is cheaper) and an interesting range of foods that you won't find in ASDAs. This is a Daily Fail story.

I'd have thought the other way actually, and the average KFC user would be scared as they would assume that the fact it was Halal would make it unethical/unclean/just for muslims/whatever. Ignorance and fear and all that.

All chicken at our Student Union cafeteria was halal, and it made no difference whatsoever to the taste. In fact, I seem to remember it was quite nice, although I'm sure that was more to do with the chickens, not the killing. Personally, I don't care, and I'd still eat it. Mind you, I also can't remember the last time I went into KFC.

I think their point is that now little Kyle and Chardonnay will be eating chicken which had its throat cut and bled to death in agony.

As I said, do we expect pickets from the vegan nutters? No, they haven't got the balls to picket mosques either.

Honestly, who gives a st? I live in Birmingham. If I eat takeaway food that isn't from one of the big chains the likelihood is that it's halal anyway. It seems slightly mental to worry about the welfare of the chickens at the last step when they've been intensively farmed to the very limit of the law for the rest of their life.
